So I'm now working on a grab and go bag that will hold a Kimber 1911 22LR along with a Taurus 22TX Competition.

Ordering all the cleaning/ maintenance items new. Along with some spare consumable parts.

What would you put in the bag?

I might wear that in a level 3 holster on my duty belt during the trip to the range and back. LOL.

Guess I should start with jigs, patches, and a Tipton 12 inch pistol rod?

Like I said, got no use for Kimber's........Purty is as purty does. Nice photo though...
But you do have my apologies, I pictured a different bag. I didn't realize it was going to just be a trip to the range....oops.

Nowadays, with GMA being disabled, I'll probably die atop a stack of spent shells. But if you get GMA before me, better have your swim trunks and a firearm capable of 2k distance. Bet I'm going to put up a fight you don't want under those conditions.

I only swim two miles nowadays, do you still need your running shoes? Of course I only have one arm and a crippled back, but if equipped with a pair of Voit Rubber Ducks I can still manage.

We can cook whatever meal is appropriate. If my eyes were good enough to read books, I could spend more time on the range.

Silly people. I invented the perfect solutions a couple of decades ago. Let me introduce the newbies to "THE PERFECT JEEP GUN". And since if I have to go I am taking the Jeep CJ-8 Not only the best CJ model ever built, but the one with the largest bed capacity.


Also for the newbies. I carried an AR-7 in my Jeep for a couple of decades. Then one day I really needed it. That little .22 seemed awful small. It did change the mind of three miscreants, but I longed for something bigger, yet still as portable. For size comparison.

I have Target bags, (3 day assault packs) already made for pistol targets, rifle targets, and a small backpack for general eye, ear, sun, protection. It also holds the stapler with staples and small binoculars.

So this 22 grab and go to the one way range bag can specialize on the pistols and maintenance items required. Been some great recommendations, got me to thinking that maybe I should include a pistol sandbag/rest to aid while sighting in either pistol?

Expecting to put in plenty of range time once the new Taurus TX22 Competition arrives. Want this bag setup with all the essentials for both open air and indoor range. Since both are 22's I won't need to chase brass. But whatever the goal is that day, I want this to be the one bag with all required maintenance items.

This is the type of bag. It should easily hold all the maintenance essentials to run, clean, and repair consumables for the TX22 Competition and Kimber 1911.

In my Range Bag, I keep as assortment of bore snakes, a bottle or Rem Oil, a few tools like a metric and imperial allen wrench set a Torx key set, a Brownells screwdriver Magna-tip #84 Hollow Handle With 4 Bits and a couple of dowels one aluminum 3/16" & a section of a wooden Ramrod incase of a squib.

I’ve left so danged many staplers at the range, I accepted that I’m not to be trusted with them. Somehow the clips last me, I can’t always brain very well.

So I’ve read this thread a couple times. It’s about ideas for range bag stuff, Not an “emergency go bag,” or a “bug out bag.” Yes?

I’ve just not heard range bags called “grab and go” bags.

But I have some spare tools in my range bag. Like those ultra tiny Allen wrenches to adjust red dots, some spare batteries, some small screw drivers.

A length of brass rod because that one time I had a squib in a revolver.

Let’s see, some duct tape, some extra ear protection, extra targets.

Also a rolled up leather mat. Because the range tables at my range are cement and I don’t want to scratch my pistols.

I also have a variety of loading devices for 22 magazines. I bought one, it’s aluminum. It depresses the follower. I’ve made a couple on the 3D printer. They work very well.

Except the magazines for the Smith and Wesson ‘Model 41. They are this weird size and I can’t figure out a solution. The follower is recessed into the body of the magazine. Not a lot just a little.

But I digress…

That is just about it in my range bag. I usually have two range bags, plus a another bag for ammo, plus a bag for targets with backup stuff.

Then this 22 specific range bag for 2 pistols (22LR 1911 & TX22 Competition) all the associated maintenance and cleaning equipment plus ammo.

Currently I start digging through six range bags picking out this and that to match what's going to the range that day, along with my general Maintenance bag, Cleaning caddy, ect.

Just want to grab this range bag with the two 22LR's, along with the small general shooting backpack, targets and head to the range. Making for a quick trip to the one way range without an evenings worth of gathering everything from other kits.

The Competition Range Bag requires a slightly smaller pistol hardcase than that of the Kimber 1911 22LR inorder to close effortlessly, so I order/ RXED two slightly smaller plano pistol hardcases resolving that trouble.

Edit BTW, have you looked at the price of Hoppes 22 caliber nylon jags lately?

Since I switched to nylon brushes I also stopped using brass jags and rods. Nylon fiber rods and jags seem to be getting pricey, or is it just me?

Yes, thanks for the explanation. I generally go to my range during the week, and I tend to be the only one there (private gun club.) So the space I take up while at the range isn’t an issue.

I’ll take some pictures when I go next week.

Now the more important question. Where is your range bag made? There are quite a few nice bags made here in the USA.

I ask because I saw one in a store the other day and while it was nice, it had very thin zippers. Made in the Philippines. Which is ok. But the thin zippers would have torn after 6 months.

Again sorry for the digression.

Tie a string to them, like a cavalry pistol, or what yer mama did with yer mittens...or make a custom holster just for the stapler. Start a fad trend!
