I lost interest in the NFL with all the kneeling and black national anthem nonsense. But I saw this and it's just one more reason to watch a movie Sunday afternoon.

Whatever. NFL lost me beginning with their coddling of Colin Kaepernick, then they sank even lower with BLM slogans on their helmets, then their playing the so-called "black national anthem" at the start of games, then...
You get the point. Being a person of mixed black and white heritage I hate all that racist (and anti-American) crap.
So I've left the NFL behind for good. Now watch college ball. And loving it.

What is the use of an on side kick if the other team knows you are going to do it?

Believe it or not, this concept of forcing a team to reveal what it plans to do, ostensibly to make things more "fair", is not just in football. The card game of bridge, which I used to play decades ago, has changed in a similar manner. Bidding in bridge is the way partners indicate to each other what cards they have to get to the best "contract" to make the necessary tricks. I hadn't played in many years and went to a local bridge club thinking it might be enjoyable. Then I found that the rules, or maybe just the culture of the game had changed. You are now required to tell your opponents what system of bidding you are using. If you cannot follow with the suit played, you can no longer throw a card of the same color hoping your opponent did not notice that you were out of that suit, but must announce what you are doing. Seems the whole game has changed to a less aggressive, and far less satisfying game than it used to be. And I guess football, even at the professional level, is moving in the same direction, as if all of American life is being softened, or feminized.

Who cares? I'd happily buy Kaperdick a beer...OR, a strawberry daiquiri...For weaning me off of pro football for good. And, for also giving me back my Sunday afternoons to enjoy other, far more worthwhile and productive activities.
American skeet was an even weirder morph. They had too many perfect scores so they added three more gauges to break the trend.
International skeet went the opposite direction. Smaller, harder, and faster birds, more doubles, less of a shot payload (~3/4 oz.) and a mandatory low mount. A perfect score of 25 is the exception rather than the rule. One gauge, no need for four guns or need to shoot all day.

I totally agree with you.
All these rule changes can be traced back to the effort to reduce concussions.
That way the NFL can say "Hey, we are doing something."
