Well, we all know that the beer virus has affected everything. Last year,, with all the shutdowns & such,, many FoNRA events were never held. At the NRA,, they also laid off or let go many employees associated with the Foundation.
My local rep was on layoff for a while,, but as they started trying to get things going again,, he had to cover a much larger area,, as the staff cut backs had created voids.

My 2020 even was held last Feb BEFORE all the shutdowns,, and as such, a good success.

But 2021 is here,, and we are still fighting the beer virus crap,, AND here in NC,, a demonic Governor who has seriously shut down some businesses,, (bars & large events,) cost jobs,, & in general,, put a lot of the State in financial distress. Add in that my event,, being held in Asheville NC,, where the City has ADDED even more strict regulations to things,, creates many more problems. But hey,, they are having sporting events & such,, because Lord knows we can't shut down football or basketball etc.

So,, here locally,, we are under a strict regulation for events to "no more than 30% capacity."
The event center we use in Asheville,, has had almost ALL it's events cancelled due to this crap.
We had a contract with them,, so we were committed or we'd still have to pay a cancellation fee.

So,, we went forward with our 2021 FoNRA event. It was last night.
NORMALLY,,, we have about 400 people attend,, (we could sell more tickets due to the size,, but that's our normal numbers.) With the restrictions,, the event center only allowed us to have 100 attendees. That is ONE FOURTH of our normal attendee numbers. With that,,, we were expecting to hopefully make 1/4th our normal monies. And we also had some committee members who have health issues to where they didn't feel comfortable attending. (Two of which were my son, and his wife,, and his wife is the treasurer. But she's enduring her 2nd round of breast cancer treatment. And my youngest has asthma,, and didn't want to risk taking a possible virus back home.)

So,, we scaled back our event to handle just 100 people.
We didn't do as many games,, or have as much merchandise. We did have 23 guns as prizes & such,, so it was almost 1 in 4 per attendee. We cut out our silent auction. And being smaller,, we didn't have to work quite as hard as normal,, so it went a bit quicker, and easier.

So, with all we've done so far,, we had a gross receipt for the event so far of right at $70,000. Now,, we have to deduct our expenses,, as well as we are going to be doing another online raffle, to boost our numbers. But we are hopeful in our net being $40,000 or better. Looking at it so far,, we may well make that. Not our normal amounts,, but pretty darn good considering all the changes we had.

And of course,, I'm accused of having a "golden horseshoe" strategically located,, and often win a few goodies. With the smaller event,, I figured to try & spend a bit more to help more,, AND my odds would be a bit better. I was salivating over a few guns & such, inwardly smiling as I just knew I'd have a good night.
Well,,, it's the first event in a LONG time where I did not win a single item. Nothing,, nada,, was drawn for me. I only got close by one number on one raffle ticket.

Still,, I'm quite pleased at the way we did pull together and hold what I feel was a good event.

Congratulations on a successful event, held under trying circumstances.

The virus has hurt all events , county fairs , fire company fundraisers such as meals, auctions etc. I really don"t think the long term effects of the shut downs have really hit us yet . There are some things you can do virtually but they are limited .

The FoNRA is facing a lot of challenges,, but again,, the many programs we help out,, have also had cut-backs.

I just hope we can ALL get back to normal soon.

Just received a notice yesterday that the one in our area in going to be in June. All the raffle tickets are already sold. Obviously someone got prior notification.

Frank,
I seriously doubt all the raffle tickets for an upcoming event are already sold.

Why?

The FoNRA has shifted things a bit. They are trying to make up for the loss of events, the drop in numbers (attendees) due to covid. Example; My Rep,, in 2019 & 2020 was required to host 27 events for the year. With covid, he failed NOT due to his actions, but instead of the shutdowns. Several FoNRA reps were laid off & many aren't going to be coming back anytime soon. PLUS,,,,,,,,, for 2021,, all existing Reps are only required to host 22 events. The Foundation has reduced the number of events,, until things get back to normal.

Next,, one way for them to try & keep the monies raised up there to TRY & meet the grant requests, is they are NOW doing "On-line raffles."

My Rep has already held several raffles. I just bought a ticket, online about 10 days ago,, for a chance to win (4) Rugers. All for one ticket, that cost me $100. The raffle was sold out in less than a day. 100 tickets, at $100 each. That raises $10,000,,, then you subtract the cost of the (4) Rugers, and and you have a net amount raised for the Foundation.
My Rep has held several raffles like this already. AND,, he is planning on more of them. This is a nationwide program,,, trying to offer raffle games to folks who'd like to participate, and win goodies,, without having to attend an event. Some folks who may attend an event normally,, may feel at risk due to covid. This is a way for them to still be part of things,,,, AND,,, raise the funds necessary for the Foundation Grant Program.

Frank's comment raises a good point. If you have attended a FoNRA event,, AND provided an email address,,, to the Rep,,, (filled out your ticket stub,) he has you in his FoNRA database. He also has access to the NRA membership in his district where emails were provided. He can put out an "e-blast" email to all in his district, with these raffles etc. Now,, the Rep is under STRICT rules to NOT share emails with any committee folks. He is the only one who can do this.
If you are not getting an email about FoNRA activities,, and want them,, contact the Foundation, find out who is the Rep for your area, contact them, and add your email to their list.

My Rep is trying to do a raffle game about once a week. I've bought into 2 of the ones my Rep has done already. A few others,, I had no interest in the items. And one,, I did have an interest,, and it sold out before I decided to buy a ticket. Now,, when I get that email, I make my decision right then, and buy a ticket.

Contact your Rep or at least the committee chairman,, to ask about games & raffles. Tell them the very same thing.

"personally, I think I would have cancelled the event and told them good luck on collecting the cancelation fee... send the bill to the governor...'

Not gonna happen.
The FoNRA Rep has a job to do. There are still people trying to have shooting programs despite the beer virus. The Foundation,,, like most other things,, is struggling financially to help those that need it. The Foundation has reduced the required number of events a Rep must have in their district this year. That reduces the money available to help shooting programs.
Heck, due to the State's rules,, as well as the City regulations,, (concerning the size of events & attendance,) we were restricted. However,, our Rep has asked us to look at trying to hold ANOTHER event there. My committee does an outstanding job,, considering how many of us there are. He'd like us all to consider a second event,, but many of my committee feel we've busted our keesters and prefer to only do one.

Besides,, as a matter of pride,, I was GLAD to be able to do an event.
My committee,, is one of the Founding Charter Committee's that has held an event EVERY year since it started. In fact,,, just a few years ago,, the Foundation celebrated it's 25th Anniversary,, and was one of ONLY 70 Chapters across the Nation that has held an event every year since inception. At that time,, there was a special gun, a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt, that was done JUST for the 70 FoNRA Chapters that had achieved this. There are only 70 of these special Rugers,, and my committee holds the record for the most money raised by a committee for the funds raised on this one gun. ($6,100.00) That gun along with 4 of it's companions,, including a consecutive one,, lives in one place. I did a display at OGCA with 4 of the 5,, because of the generosity of a fine gentleman.
So, my committee is one of the FEW that, despite everything, has held an event every year, from 1993 until now.

Give up?
Nope.

When ya'll get rid of that tin pot dictator lappy-air & his conies that BLEED the NRA of needed $$$$$............A LOT of us will be back in big time.

Wayne LaPierre has nothing to do with the Foundation.

The FoNRA is a 501c3 tax exempt portion of the NRA that raises funds to help various shooting programs across the Country. Many of them are grants to youth education programs,, or youth shooting teams.
I PERSONALLY sit on the NC State Grant Fund Committee & SEE where the money goes.

FoNRA does stand for; "Friends of the NRA".
The FoNRA Foundation is a 501c3 NON-PROFIT division of the NRA designed to help the many local and national educational programs designed to help educate new shooters, promote the shooting sports etc.
