My son has ACL replacement surgery in a few hours. After the injury completely destroyed his plans to play soccer his senior year, we are hoping he will be able to come back from this and compete in college. Any and all prayers deeply appreciated!

Hope it goes well. I know how he and you both feel. My youngest Son played football from the time he was 5yo until his Junior year in high school. He made Varsity his Freshman year as two way lineman. He was getting looks from colleges. But his dream was to play at the Naval Academy... and beating Army. He had a dislocated knee cap in youth league. It happened twice his Sophomore year......and at the end of season his Junior year it happened again this time tearing ligaments. Surgeon told him he was done with football. He was crushed. I did everything possible to keep him motivated. He recovered but of course didn't play his Senior year. He kept working out and did continue to throw shot put/discus in the Spring but never got back to his previous level prior to the injury.

All was not lost. He got a medical waiver, and was able to enlist in the Navy. He is approaching 3yrs in and very successful. He's happy. While he may not get to Beat Army in a Navy football uniform and pads....he's currently standing by for his first deployment and may have the chance to Beat Them in a Navy camo uniform and kit...he's pumped for it.

Best of luck to your Son. Keep him motivated and looking forward no matter the outcome.

Doc said the surgery went very well. They did find and repair a tear in his meniscus while they were in there. For mom and I, it was a 6 hour ordeal for a 45 minute surgery, but the doc expects a full, complete (100%) recovery. I think we have him convinced to take a gap year, then hit the winter ID camps to hopefully get recruited for college.

Thanks everyone!!

Oh, and yeah, he was feeling good enough after the surgery and pain meds to hit on his nurse.... who was cute, but at least twice his age (and married with kids).

Thinking with the little head not the big head, he'll be fine. I just saw this, but prayers up for his recovery.

Best wishes and prayers for your son. My grandson tore his ACL in the first HS baseball game of the season last year. He just finished one year of rehab and is back on the field with no apparent adverse impact. He says the injury doesn’t bother him at all.
