Flatgate price?

The LGS has a nice 3 screw Single Six flat gate with a beautiful plum receiver serial # 4330. It's in great shape, can anyone give me an idea of a good price for this piece? They also have a really nice 3 screw Blackhawk in 357 serial # 30-71085. Any info as to year or value for both would be appreciated.

Well, I'm new here but I can tell you that a friend just bought one in 98% condition, of the same vintage with original box for $725.00 and thought he got a deal. To buy the box seperately it would cost another $150.00 and up. Dave

The Flatgate serial number 4330 would have been shipped in 1954. It would be considered a "Type 2" Flatgate. One question you didn't answer that makes a big difference in value. Has it been converted to where it now has the safety transfer bar? If it has been converted & the original parts are not with it,, that hurts the value.
Next, it's all about condition. An early gun like that can be considered a collectable one, but only if in very good condition. You mentioned it was very nice, but proper grading of condition is paramount for a gun like this. As such, it can be worth from $400 to around $600-$700. If they have the box & any paperwork, that adds to the value.
The Blackhawk 357 was made in 1970, and unless there is something unusual about it, around the $500 mark in value. Again, condition is important, but that late of a production model has to have something unusual to make the value jump.

Good 9in fo above and the bottom line is that the "value" is indeed in the "details", and of course condition is NUMBER ONE.................
Many of them "look good" just sitting there in the case, till you pick it up and closely examine it and with knowing what the 'details" you are looking for, are they THERE !!!
Thus the pricing is very subjective. a better question would be to say, tell, what the price is they are asking, and go from there to try and justify it...............

Barrel length on the .357?

There were a lot of convertibles made in that time period. Might want to check to see if they have an "extra" cylinder for it.

Contender you are right on. They want $700 for the flat gate with rubber grips, I would say it's 90% and I think it includes the box, I will have to check and take a look at the box. The BH is just standard, again 90% and don't know about a box, $500 on that one. I really want a convertible SS Vaquero as I shoot a lot of 9mm and will probably start reloading soon because of all the free range pickup, but have not found one in my price range (yes I'm cheap). I suspected they were not a "deal", but man I really had a hard time leaving without that Flatgate, what a sweet little revolver. I also have my eye on a 32 SS Vaquero Single Six with the black micarta BH grips, 90% with box. Price is $570 on that one, seemed a little high.

Out of the three I'd take the .32 Vaquero first at those prices but that might be because of what I already have.
