Flags in trucks

Is there anything going on these days?

I don't usually see people flying flags out of the back of their trucks around town. It's mostly out in the country. But so far this week, I've seen two pickups with flags and some guy on a bicycle with a pretty big flag he had duct taped to his seat somehow. I thought he might tip over, but nope.

I guess I'm not that patriotic, I'm simply not going to put a flag on my truck and drive around.

He must have been trying to say something I suppose. The tailgate of his truck had some large stickers on it, but I wasn’t close enough to see what they were.

I just found it odd to see three different people with flags this week. I guess there was an election. I do follow the news but didn’t hear anything about who was running or anything. Maybe the flags were for the election.

Out here, in the land of antifa, young Conservatives often fly the Colors from their pickup, as well as having a large sticker in the back window that says OREGUNIAN.

It's just a nice way to be spiteful when they're in and around folks that are hoping to give our rights away,

It's very common to see an impromptu rally of young folks standing on a street corner flying the American Flag.

Portland is a craphole, but there are still a large bunch of folks throughout the state that do not approve of the goings-on in the big nasty city.

I have had a reflective, 3x5 flag on the "tailgate" of my vehicles for the last thirty
five years. For a while Mr's Smith and Wesson, and more recently, Mr. Ruger,
assure me it is not a problem. :shock:

Why NOT fly the flag of America?

I see a lot of other nationalities flying a flag of their home country,, so why not be proud of flying the flag of the Country you love AND live in?

I guess a lot of folks are tired of the direction they see a portion of the country heading. They want to just express themselves differently.

The only problem I have with the vehicle flag wavers is when I see the flag torn and wore still flying as they drive down the road.... that tells me a lot more about the person than just their presumed patriotism.

I had a friend (I know that's hard to believe) back after 911 who put a window post flag on his car and was showing it off to me and I told him that was fine but when it got frayed and torn if he did not remove it I would.

Agreed! I have a flag at home, I alternate between the Texas flag and the American flag.

But, I do question if a vehicle is the best place to fly not just one flag, but three? It certainly blocks his visibility, and if the flag(s) cause an accident, then that’s not good.

The other day I saw a Jeep Wrangler, and the American flag was somehow etched into the tint of his rear window. It was actually really, really cool. Won’t block visability and won’t rip or tear.

And those of us disagreeing with all this, while standing behind our Flag, and we're looking for trouble?

There are just as many brain-dead rightist wackos in this country as there are leftist ones, at least indicated by the pretty much 50-50 voting we are seeing. Those of us who try to be neither are pretty much left out currently.

I live in a newly developing neighborhood in a medium sized city where pretty much all residents respect the flag, the military, etc. One new home in our neighborhood installed a regulation flagpole and flies a large US flag. Good for them, except they neglected to install a light to illuminate it at night, which sort of disrespects the flag methinks.

My first boss at the trap & skeet range when I was 16 or 17 told me some things that have stuck with me:

A truly rich man doesn't have to tell you he's rich. It will show.

A truly educated man doesn't have to tell you he's educated. It will show.

A truly patriotic man doesn't have to tell you he's patriotic. It will show.

He was a Navy SeaBee in the South Pacific in WWII. He'd "seen some stuff" but like so many WWII vets, tried to leave it behind. We raised the flag every morning when we opened (barring rain), and took it down at sunset. On the days of regular scheduled shoots (club, registered, etc), we played the National Anthem on the PA system before the shoot started. He's long gone, but the tradition lives on at the club. I have no idea how many veterans have shot at that club over a half century plus, but never once have I seen one at the club with a big raised pickup and a bed full of flags. (On the street may be a whole different thing.) Yet I don't doubt their true patriotism. Like my boss said, it shows, maybe in something as simple as how they snap to when the National Anthem is played. As for the "Look at me, I'm a bigger patriot than you" crowd, I have "my thoughts."

I've actually been thinking about getting a flag holder that fits into the receiver hitch on my truck. But the flag deterioration has stopped me.

Last summer when ANTIFA was rioting in Murfreesboro,Tn, the comment was made, that ANTIFA was coming to Woodbury where I live. Access to our town was cut down drastically so the miscreants could be identified by young men with jacked up trucks and flying both the American flag, and the Confederate flag. The ANITA nonsense didn’t come to our town!

I actually learned here that the history of the American Revolution was 'revised' after the war between the states/war of Northern aggression/Civil War (how ever you want to name it, it was bad).... seems that it is forgotten that more battles were fought in S.C. than any other state and the tide finally turned here at two of those Cowpins and Kings Mountain.
