I sure hope Fast Ed is resting comfortably.

I'd always show the pictures of shoes to my wife and daughter. In fact we were just talking about Fast Ed and Hoss the other day. It would be nice to get an update. I did read tack drivers. I have to admit I didn't always get the humor.

Thanks for the thread Jim.

Me neither, and quickly gave up trying. But I did always enjoy Fast Ed's posts and photos about the USAF museum. Good stuff!

Yeah.. I didn't always get the humor either.. But I still enjoyed reading the comic strip.. I do miss it..

I didn't know Ed but it sure felt like I did. He was an interesting guy and his talent and hard work kept us entertained for many years. I once suggested he should be put in the Rugerforum Hall-Of-Fame and he said, "how much does that pay? ". He is certainly missed.

Well!!! Even though Ed and I never met we became good friends do to this Forum. I was the Beer Man in the Slippery Rock cartoon. For those that didn't get his humor that is sad.
Anyway we were connected in a way by walking the same ground along the South Fork of the Rio Grande in CO.
Ed posted a picture of the South Fork and I new where it was taken from. So I took a picture of the same place 20 years or so later.

Well When I saw this picture of Ed's I thought it looked pretty familiar. It was taken along Hwy 160 and is the South Fork of the Rio Grande River about 15 miles West of South Fork CO. I have been along this road so much I know just about every rock there. :D
So today the Wifie and I stopped to take some pictures of the same location. A few things have changed but the big rock is still there along with the culvert under the road.
From Ed when I asked the location.
I've taken so many photos in Colorado I just can't remember them all, or at my age, any.
I would guess that was in the Durango area.

Same Rock but the water isn't quite so fast.

Mountains are still the same.

RIP ED I miss you and your post about several GREAT things along with Tack Drivers and the Slipper Rock Gang. Starting the day without Tack Drivers just isn't the same on the Forum.

I never commented on the cartoon because I never got it. At least now I know I'm not the only one!

Did Fast Ed die or go on to other pursuits? I can't tell for sure from the posts.
gramps, who is a little slow

Gramps,
He died very suddenly. :(

Wow.. That sucks.. I'm sorry to hear of this.. My deepest condolences to those that were his friends and family..

I didn't know the man, except reading his cartoons and postings. But I still feel badly for his loss..

:(

Oh Fast Ed, how I miss you. I promise to take any and all of my 6 grandkids to the USAF museum at WPAFB in the next 5 years. It is on my BUCKET LIST, and I will do it in your memory.

RIP my friend.

I'd love to see current pics of Hoss. Anybody out there know how?

When I first joined this fine forum, I glanced at Tackdrivers, meh. Then I started reading them more and then went back as far as I could to start anew. Then the little lightbulb popped on and I got it and saw the humor and the cast of characters grew on me. After that, it was - when's the next episode coming out. I wish he would have published them ( I know a number of us really tried to get him to do this), I would have bought several to give as gifts. To me, my opinion only, a lot of those strips could have been scenes/skits for 60's and 70's comedy shows, Jackie Gleason, Carol Burnett (and that cast of characters), Red Skelton, Car 54, and so many more.

You know,

I really think that after the man contributed so much to this forum, and the lives of so many others with his posts.. That perhaps ALL of his Tackdriver strips should be assembled from beginning to end, and maybe posted as a permanent sticky somewhere on the board..

He gave so much, to so many here, that I thought it would be cool to maybe give something back.. To honor, and remember the man for who he was..

I can think of no better tribute to the gentleman.. Just a suggestion..
