Asking for some of the experts to chime in here. I am going to put a used but late model, blued SBH Dragoon frame on my New Model Blackhawk because I want a larger grip. Also because I have a set of vintage (late 50's/early 60's) SBH Dragoon Sambars that are really nice. I don't have the grip frame yet, but am about to buy one. I was trying to judge how much fitting of the grips I will have to do when I come across this statement on a custom grip website:
“These are early Ruger Super Blackhawk staghorn grips which are smaller than some of the current SBH frames”

Of course unlike my genuine Sambars, their grips are plastic, but their measurements were all that I was interested in and their notation confused me. Now I'm not an expert on Rugers (yet), but I remember what I read and I've been reading a lot lately and now have a pretty good handle on all the Ruger grip frame history, variations, nuances etc. And I thought that the square back SBH Dragoon frame (with the exception of the early rare “long” gripped models) was pretty much unchanged from it's inception. Will these grips that I have which were on an early 60's Dragoon grip frame SBH be too small for a curent or late model (2000's) blued factory SBH Dragoon frame? Never heard of this before coming across that website. Or perhaps I misinterpreted the statement and what they mean is that their grips are smaller then typical.
Were there smaller SBH Dragoon frames in the 50's & 60's than there are now or are they the same dimensions (within production tolerances of course.)? I don't mind sanding the grips a touch or even the frame a touch, but don't want to change either by more than 'a touch'.
