Excel...Word?

How do I get these programs on my new computer, I don't use these much but I find them to be helpful. Not so much a cheapskate, as I like to save my money for guns and ammo components...any help would be appreciated.

Word and Excel are both licensed Microsoft products. If you have them and somebody didn't pay for them, they have been obtained illegally.

OpenOffice is the open source ("free") competitor to Microsoft Office. It's not 100% as user friendly, but it does have most of the basic functionality covered.

They’ve recently changed. I have a 4 year old computer and when I bought it, I bought a downloadable copy of Microsoft Office through my wife’s company. However, NOW you must pay $69 per year to get the license.

I don’t think there is anyway to move them to a new computer. Well, you could always take the hard drive out of your old computer and add it into the new computer as a secondary drive.

But the 365 license is pretty nice. You get 1 TB of cloud storage and this is accessible from multiple devices, so if you have a tablet or a laptop and desktop computer you can have access to your files.

You can use Microsoft Office 365 free with their online version.

You work in Word or PPT or Excel through a web browser similar to Google Docs, and why I think Microsoft did this to compete with Google.

Welcome to "Windows as a service." Then think how the word "service" is used in the livestock world.

I've used Open Office for years, and have only found a couple of quirks. On the good side for me, it will open EVERY past version of Excel files I've tried--my clients have all kinds of "older" stuff they send me--something which Microsoft couldn't even do.

I use 'Ableword' whenever I run into a DOC or DOCX file and to edit PDF files. It's free and works good.

I have Excel and Word on my 10 year old laptop.... Microsoft keeps sending me 'reminders' that it's no longer 'supported'..... I didn't know they were 'supporting' it for the first 10 years; so I just keep using it and, so far, no problems other than I have to delete the banner that pops up telling me.... well, you know
I keep everything backed-up on external storage thingies so if they ever just cut me off somehow, I'll just buy a new laptop and use another "service".

I used to use Open Office but switched to Libre Office as it seems to handle imported Microsoft Office files better, YMMV.

I loaded Microsoft Works onto this computer left over from a previous computer, you know when they used to actually pack CD's with new computers, and never went with paying for Word or MS Office or Excel. I don't like being held hostage to buy something I don't need.

I have several older versions that I paid for. The only hassle is they won’t open newer “secure” file types. But since I retired I rarely receive those. My Office needs are simple these days.
