I'm thinking about getting my .41 mag engraved, but not sure if that would have any significant effect on the strength of the barrel and cylinder. Anybody have some input on this?
Shouldn't be an issue at all. Large frame Blackhawk cylinder chambered in 41 mag has a lot of thickness. Still, the thinnest point will be in the cylinder walls at the point where the cylinder latch engages the locking slot in the cylinder. This won't be compromised by any engraving. The barrel too will have a fair amount of thickness in a 41 when compared to a 44 so strength there shouldn't be an issue either.
WOW!! I wasn't thinking of anything quite that elaborate, but that sure is beautiful. :D How many thousands did that cost you if you don't mind my asking?

GunnyGene . It belongs to a friend, I just made the grips for him. He bought it for about $75 at a PX on post in Japan when he was in the Marines. He had it engraved by the master of an engraving school in Japan. Probably for less than what he paid for the gun new. It had a pair of Ivories on it that evidently were made from green tusk as they shrank and split after 50 or so years. I am sure he never oiled them either.
He did say he paid $17.00 extra to have the Ivory`s made.
Those were the good old days!!
Chuck, nice job on the grips :) I get a little bored with the usual walnut stuff. I've got a nice chunk of Mesquite I might make some new ones out of. I've done a few grips for myself and relatives in the past.
My .41 has the fluted cylinder, so probably would not be as intricate. And I've been checking around for prices - Looks like a minimum of $600 these days. Got some feelers out for a engraver near me, so I don't have to ship it, and can discuss it face to face.
Bosephus - your last name isn't Williams by any chance is it? ;)
Sorry no...it is Lynn...(I actually got the "Bocephus" moniker from a drinking buddy "Watasha" back in the 80's, yes we listened to a lot of country & drink a lot of whiskey) didn't think about it on a "Ruger" forum..being Hank,..can't change it now.
I ask for a NameChange and PrestoChango...
