Electronic earmuffs

Well, I have several different brands & such. Plus,, in USPSA almost everybody uses electronic muffs. So I see a lot of them.
Pro Ears is a good brand & reputable. But there are also others. Walkers are also good. Just stay away from the "cheaper" brands,, as they just don't last. Remember,, you get what you pay for,, and ear damage is permanent.
I'd have to go into my range bags to see what other brands I have.

I have a new handgun purchase coming soon and one car in garage for work at this time and not cheap fix so not looking to fork out multiple Franklin’s at this time. Just checked midway the elec pro ears seem to starting about $200 and up and I’m looking for two pair, too much. I’ll check out the walkers, thanks.

I have two pairs of Walkers. And I'm thinking they were less than 30-bucks each. Probably not the level some folks would prefer, but these work very well for me.

Although not necessary, I wear ear plugs under the Game Ears, turn the volumn up, and although I can easily hear folks talking, gun blasts remain invisible to my ears.

Good to hear, pun intended. Thanks.

Yeah, after a few decades of dealing with my stone cold deaf "I'm too damn tuff for any hearing protection." Silent Generation Dad...I say wear the best doggone hearing protection available!..

I have a couple of pairs of the Walkers & they work well for shooting pistols. Any muffs seem to get in my way when shooting rifles. I've been interested in the electric earbuds or plugs they have out now but still haven't made up my mind about what I want to take a chance on.

I started wearing peltor tactical in the .mil and continued using them until batteries finally killed both pairs I had

pro tip - reverse the cups so mics are facing the rear where range commands come from ;)

and don't leave batteries in them, or use lithium I suppose would lower chance of leakage

we used this style to not interfere with helmets in battle rattle but I'm sure standard head band style would work just as well and more comfortable

I used the Walkers in a class I took for a number of years and really like them.. but I swear I paid something like $150 for them. Before that I bought some cheap pair and they would just cut off with a loud noise... the Walkers I bought did not cut out sound just keeps everything at the same volume... kind of disconcerting at first to hear someone walking on gravel 50 yards away.
My most recent purchase was some with the Sig logo that are also blue tooth capable and I like them a lot. The only issue is I discovered you could buy pretty much the same ones off Amazon for about half as much with out the Sig logo on them. Can't recall the brand right at this moment.

I found the pair like Killer Bee posted above and I can't for the life of me figure out how to access the batteries in the dern thing.... I'm sure they have Leakes and the muffs are shot but it is just bothering me.

I have Howard-Leight muffs. They're older so I am sure there is better tech but I thought they were pretty trick because of a phono plug input so you can listen to music. Used mine mowing little league fields more than shooting. Good for spying on neighbors too.

Be aware that "you get what you pay for" and that is not good when your hearing is at risk when you skimp on the price.

Ist off the most dangerous ear destructing ammo is believe it or not the lowly .22 rimfire. Why???? Because any good ear doctor knows that the sound of a .22 rimfire is low enough to make it past the inner ear valve and wipe out those fine hairs in the inner ear as opposed to a centerfire rifle blast that partially closes the inner ear valve. In plain english the .22 rimfire will annihilate your hearing far faster than a centerfire blast will.

I bought a pair of Peltor Electronic ear muffs and its springs were so weak the muff was useless even when in the "turned off "mode. I then looked at the many models of Walker electronic muffs and bought a pair and they had far stronger springs than the garbage Peltor muffs but the cups were not filled with half liquid and half foam making them inferior to that type of cup. So far I have not found a replacement set of cups that are half liquid and half foam. Do not get me wrong my Walkers are good electronic muffs but still inferior to a muff with extra strong springs and cups filled with both foam and liquid. My Dave Clark aircraft muffs are the ultimate but they do not make an electronic shut off muff that I am aware of.

In comparison I have used for years a non-electronic muff made for the aircraft industry by Dave Clark that does have strong expensive springs and cups that are half liquid and half foam and there is no comparison to their protection but alas they are so good you cannot hear anyone talking to you.

Whichever you decide to buy, spend a little extra and order a pair of gel earpads. They will make the earmuffs much more comfortable. Right now Midway has Walker's for just over $50 and the gel pads are under $20.

And the most important thing, which I have not seen mentioned, is the higher the NRR the better. Don't go below 23.

I have about 5 or six ear muffs. Mostly Walker.
But these additions were worth every penny.

Just got off phone with midway and ordered two pairs of Walker Razor Slim low profile NRR 23db with a 'free' walkie talkie for each. Figured what the hell, could come in handy at the range and if the war drums stop in this fragile climate in the country now they most certainly should be beneficial.
Got cases for each one for traveling by plane.
Thanks for the tips guys.

Dave: saw your post after I ordered. Looked up those ear pads and they have great reviews. Saw them on Amazon and ordering. Thanks

My son is a full time LEO firearms instructor. I was at the range last fall and noticed most were using SORDIN electronic muffs. I purchased a set at Christmas, MIDWAY had them on sale.

wHAT??

I usually use ear plugs and then put on Non electric muffs. Works very good but hard to hear somebody talking.

Never heard of them. Did a search, those seem to be older versions of what they sell now. New ones run about $300 and have a lower rating of NRR19 vs 23 which is considerable. Since you saw so many could they have been supplied by range for the officers? Thanks for your post.
