I think I'll just have a chicken leg or 2 for dinner tonight :D

A mother of four with all she can eat that she didn't have to share with the kids and didn't have to cook? She showed remarkable restraint.

Hey What's the big deal???????????? We stopped there on our way back from CO a week ago Wed. It has been a family tradition since 1982. The Kids and Grandkids enjoy the place a lot. I wasn't real hungry so all I ate was three 72oz. Chicken Fried Steaks plus about 5# of mashed taters with gravy and washed it down with a keg of beer . My record doesn't count because it has to be the 72oz. Sirloin :( :( Since I had had a beer we spent the night in the motor home in their parking lot.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it

Ooohhh, chicken fried steak with whole milk gravy... mashed potatoes with more of the whole milk gravy... I think spinach would be good as well. Or maybe rice instead of the potatoes. And just for a treat I'll dig out a bottle of the blackberry wine I made two years ago for hubby.

Thanks Jim, I know what to make for dinner tomorrow now.

Since the Wifie can't eat fried foods do to a very bad allergic reaction. I now don't get CF Steak as often as I want. We eat out very seldom and when we do it is Mex food most of the time. Mex CF isn't to good.
Hers and my Son's is outstanding. The next time you make it try using Cube Steak rather than the typical round steak. Yep ya got to have mashed taters and a lot of white gravy :D Use the rice for Cajun stuff
YUM YUM

I generally use the smaller end of the rib, the rounds are stew beef and the arms for roasts. That particular cut is tender enough for the purpose.

Selena, and anyone else who reads this. Chicken Fried Steak is whole different world then BBQ or steaks but I can tell you if you are ever in North Texas, go to a place called the Rocket Cafe in Rocket TX.. Oh it is a wonderful little place in the middle of everywhere. You can follow this link. http://rockettcafe.com/ They have my favorite appetizers, a basket of awesome hand battered onion rings, hand battered mushrooms and hand battered fried pickles and cold beer. Their CFS is awesome as well as their fried catfish. If you are ever between Houston and Dallas and get hungry between Ennis and Dallas you have got to stop. Trust me, I know my fish and CFS.

Karl, a great place for fried catfish is a hole in the wall spot in Mexia called Farm House. They trim the black, greasy spots off and it has a slightly spicy breading.

Wendy: Yes, take out the blood vein. There are lots of great places for one thing. This one just seems to be great for all of them. Y'all come up some time and we will meet you there. Texas distances it is not all that far away.

Karl

By the way, what are you doing up this late? I am up because my leg is killing me. Had rehab today and my calf is not having fun.

And Wright's BBQ in Mexia is another spot to check out. I know that Kenneth's family has gotten from there for about 50 years or so. We will have to work out the getting together.

We are always into BBQ and CFS/Steak. Mexia, is a bit from here but we could make it. I am on OJI right now. Are there any decent bars/hotels there. Not asking ourselves up. I am just bored out of my head. I can walk fine, I just can't get out and do the work that needs to be getting done. I can't walk for long yet though.

Karl

We get to Mexia about every couple of months or so. Between the BBQ and catfish I would weigh a ton if we went regularly. I do not exactly watch my weight but do try to keep it to about 125 here. :)

Well if y'all ever want to meet just let us know. I did not realize y'all were that close. We live just north of the Cedar Creek lake dam. I don't watch my weight ever until now. I have done nothing but sit around like a lump because I couldn't walk. I have actually lost weight. I am 5'7" and now weigh 152 lbs., I keep working out but I just don't want to eat because I am not working. Weird I guess. I am going to start riding my bicycle this week again, they have me doing it in rehab so I should be able to do it here, just won't push it.

Sorry for the misdirection on the dead cow flesh eating. There is nothing better. Have eaten there a few times. What Texan hasn't? I could not eat a 72oz. steak if you threatened death on me. I love steak but my stomach just could not handle it.

My next steak joint is in El Paso. Cattlemans in El Paso. Remember we fly free. Supposed to be awesome. Unless it is the place in Mexia. I take local reviews seriously. We have driven along ways for good food.

I'm good for a couple of lbs of beef anytime. Have steaks laid out for the fire, for later. A clam bake mid-day. The seasons by food for you ? Here, spring is pancake breakfast season. Fall is clambake season. Summer is BBQ or cook-out season, no specific food. Winter ? I guess I just everything in the winter.

Steve: I hate pancakes, always have. From child hood I can not eat them. A batch of flour covered in what ever. I like crispy waffles though. I know everybody else does but I am a bit strange I guess.
