Dogs

This is Buster, affectionately known as "Roo" by family and friends. I have had numerous dogs in my life and loved them all. Grew up with Airedales (my parents favorite dog), I've had the pleasure of many dog friends, especially a Vizsla (Thor) who was a tremendous bird hunter who could do it all and we roamed California, Virginia and Maryland together in pursuit, and a Yellow Lab (Belle) who I had intentions of training for birds but she was a joker for sure and had other ideas of how her life would be and that's how it went.
Buster "Roo" was our last K9 member of our family. We lost him to cancer FRI 07APR23. He graced us with his goofy, at times challenging but always entertaining ways for 12 years. Everyone loved him, and he loved everyone. He was a pure bred American Pitbull Terrier. Ferocious? Scary? Intimidating? Nope, not an ounce of what the media and some nuts want you to believe. If he wanted attention, food, water or outside he would walk up to you and make a "Roo Roo Roo" sound. Hence his nickname.
My Wife, was a Deputy who had a passion for animals. And one day she said she was transferring to the County Animal Control Department to become a Animal Control Officer/Cruelty Investigator. It meant giving up rank and some other things, but it was important to her. It brought us Buster. One of her first cases was a box of puppies reported seen on the side of a very rural road, in the middle of the night, in the dead of winter. When my Wife arrived on scene, she found the box, empty. A short distance away she found the pups, all cuddled up to the dead body of the mother trying to stay warm. They all had severe mange, and were starving. Long story short, she and the Sheriffs Dept investigated and was able to identify and track down the foul disgusting excuses of human life responsible. It was a underground dog fighting ring. The pups and Mother had contracted mange, and were discarded. During the raid on the property, dozens of dogs in terrible condition were seized. Along with drugs, weapons, stolen property, etc...the filth responsible were lathered in charges, most of which stuck and there was jail time. Our Correction Officers friends made sure all the inmates knew what they had done. There was some "cell justice" carried out by other inmates, as we were informed. All of Busters siblings were saved, brought to good health and adopted by good loving families. I hand picked Buster from the pups. If I could have taken them all I would have. So, I don't have "favorites" of the dogs I have shared my life with, but Buster was special in how he was saved by my Wife and brought into our lives. It's tough to let our dogs go. As tough as I may think I am I will be honest and say I'm a bit misty eyed right now just typing this. I miss them all.
There's a special place in Hell for dog abusers. People like Michael Vick and the subhuman scum like him deserve to be dropped into a septic tank and have the lid replaced.
As far as dog poop keeping anyone from having God's greatest gift as a companion, they don't get it, it's inconsequential.

Here's our rotten 25# westie. He has made every moment with him so much. And when we're away from him, we much so much.

Dogs are great, BUT you have to pick up their offal and I just got tired of that. Don't get me wrong, I owned two Golden Retrievers, and loved them to pieces. BUT they crap about as much as I do, and no where to flush it. Cats go in a box, and it isn't a big deal to clean it. Still love dogs, as long as they belong to someone else.
That’s why I only owned one at a time. Sorry, won’t own a cat.

I can't help it, I am a CAT person! However, if I was to get a dog, it would be like Sammy, who could walk all around the park by himself, ignore people, not letting them touch him and never bark at them or other dogs.

Dogs have owners... Cats have servants! I have had dogs in the past but not in many years. Cats fit better into our lives and give us much pleasure. We have 3 now with the loss of Julian who was the last cat that knew my son and 1st wife. They all greet me at the door and want attention so I am happy

I like both cats and dogs and never understood why people will love one but hate the other. They both have their place and are good companions separately or together. Even though we don’t have a dog now, I still get my fill of pets and licks with the neighbors dogs.

I use to have a neighbor that her dog really didn’t like people. For some reason though he really liked me. He knew what time I would get home from work each day. He would go to the front door and want out. Then he would come over and sit on my front door step until I got home. Once I got there, he would come inside and roll around on the floor with me and play with the cat. After 30 minutes or so passed. He would go to the front door and want to go home. This went on for several years until he passed.

Pets are great to have around and I enjoy their company. It doesn’t matter if they are mine or the neighbors.

Bought my dog a ball on Friday PM. Came down the stairs and she was not to happy with me. "Next time get a size small".

Later when she became old, she became totally Blind, but would still lay by the door waiting for me me to come home. She is gone now. But not a day goes by that I do not think about her. (many times a day)
I gave her to my son when he was nine years old. she Passed away when he took off or Iraq.

Below is a "Camp" dog my son rescued while in Iraq. He was successful in sending it home to America to a Army Dr. he met while serving as a Combat Medic. The pup got a great home on a farm in Kentucky.

There is a book called “Oogie” written by a guy named Larry Levin. You might like it.

It’s about a rescue dog taken from a dog fighting ring. Everyone thought it was a Pit Bull but turned out to be some other type of dog, I forget which.

Anyway, I believe it’s a true story. Pretty good book too. I listened to it as an audio book when driving. Very good book actually.

Yes Sir, very familiar with Oogy. He was a Dogo Argentino......he was used as a "bait dog". Our Buster and his Brothers and Sisters would have suffered the same fate as bait dogs if they had not contracted mange. They were all undersized at birth, and the Mother had reached her breeding max. Sad as it is, fate was on their side. They were in line to be bait dogs once they reached a certain size, but were all discarded as trash. Mange and the person who made the phone call saved their lives. My Wife's relentless investigation made sure the scum who was responsible paid a price.

Yes Oogy is a true story. Heart wrenching.

I hope there is a special place in Hell for scumbags that abuse animals. I am glad that your wife went the distance in prosecuting the cretins involved.

Heidi, our rescue Weimeraner. Saved from POS drug dealers, pure bred. When we picked her up, she was 20 pounds underweight, ribs showing and stressed.
I cried on the drive home.
She recovered, because of my wife loving her and I fed her to get her back up to healthy weight. The most loyal and protective dog. I travelled a lot then, and always knew Heidi would protect my wife.
There is just something about a loyal dog, part of the family.

I'm a dog person, but if I had a cat it would be this one. Norwegian Forest Cat.

"Dogs prepare you for children. Cats prepare you for teenagers." I'll stand by this quote!
Dogs are God's gift to teach us what unconditional love is. Cats are familiars to witches
to communicate with demons for a reason and love has nothing to do with it. ;)
