Had a unannounced test late last nite. Probably just a couple kids looking for a place to do what kids do. They were probably a little surprised when the lights came on before they got within about 100 yds of the house. I had plenty of time to get up, throw on some shorts, lock and load, and watch the car turn around and leave.

This is only the 3rd or 4th time this has occurred in the last 10 years.

Warning systems are a good investment.

I have floods that detect motion or heat on ALL of my buildings (house, barn, tool-shed, etc.) I also have solar floods that light up the house on all sides. I think one of the biggest deterrents is the "Beware of Dog" signs on the fences.....that and the fact that during the day, you see the Dobermans with us when we are doing chores. I also open carry on my property because of coyotes.

This farm used to belong to my in-laws and my father-in-law (RIP)was a legend in these parts. The story is told repeatedly that he met two kids, who had broke into the house, with his double barreled 10 gauge shotgun He was about 8 feet away and muttered "this is going to make one hell of a mess on the walls".
I think some don't know he is gone.... but the legend lives on.
