Last night it was 68* at 8PM. I shut the furnace down because it's a waste of fuel and the house was getting overly warm. I run a "bio-mass" (corn or wood pellet) furnace on which the "pilot" function feeds the burn pot for 30 seconds every 3 minutes to keep the fire going. At temps above 45*, this is more burn than it takes to keep the house warm. It also requires a shut down period to allow the fire to burn out before full shutdown(3-4 hours).
I shut it down last night thinking we're in for a couple days of warm weather and this morning the temp is 36* with strong wind and the forecast is for freezing temps next 3-4 days. At least we can hope this cold snap helps quell the pandemic.

This time of transition from Winter to Spring the weather acts this way.
I take out the fans one day and the next day the heater is running. :)
We have that all in one day.
Run the heater all night and need the A/C by early afternoon.
(this presumes you want it any where near comfortable)

I’ve heated with wood for 30+ years, I still misjudge the need for heat a couple times each Spring. I do have gas backup but am loathe to hear it kick on, even tho highest gas bill was 37$ this winter.
