appears the box is that of the 357 model, and blacked out, and the shipping sleeve remarked over the 357 caliber............he said it had a white sticker on it and it fell off?? and the OSHP 357 there was no "presentation" case, just the yellow/black box and papers. Last one we sold for a retired trooper had a belt buckle and the knife all with his badge number on them, and in a felt lined presentation case, with the OSHP logo on the lid.

Nice clean pieces!
Caliber is blacked out because the CHP gun is 38 spl. and not 357 mag. One wonders if it's the correct box.

So it's your belief that the OSP number on the Ohio gun is a badge number and not a consecutive commemorative issue number?

I also have one of each. :D

Those in any version are getting hard to come by.
Been looking on the web for stainless with the heavy barrel and target grips.

The last one we sold for the 'retired' Captain, had HIS badge number, on ALL the accessories...as well as all the "other" OSHP commemerative guns he had, the Rem 870, 1100 ,etc...........he told us, the officers had first choice of having their badge numbers as the number on the gun, NOT the guns serial number, the OSHP number........

Rugerguy,
See my earlier post about the ser. no. range of the Ohio SP guns:

I'm beginning to think that Chad's number of guns produced (4,350) is based on the badge number observation rather than actual production numbers.
Any thoughts?

Its been a while (mid 80's) when that took place and I really cannot say if that was "exactly" how they went about, certainly many did NOT buy or get their "badge number" and except for the comments of the few officers that I knew and they did get their badge number 'match' ,,then at what time did the others, or unclaimed ones go into the system??? pretty sure the first one #1 went to the at that time commandant of the patrol ,Chiaramonte??(sic) and there was the salesmans 'sample' as I recall it was #0000, and may have been gotten by Doris Campbell back then, we had it offered to us and said no.....most all of the troopers by now are retired, and as I saw recently, one another 3 digit in the 900 range came to the Medina gun show, and they were asking over $1000 for it, another Captains gun.............

My speculation is that there was not a concecutive run of (badge) numbers produced and therefore there were not 4,350 produced.
Just for chuckles, I really don't think there were 4,350 active OSP members at one time.
I need some help here
(By the way, I was born in Ohio :D )
