Had to laugh. My best friend once had a neighbor whose wife he referred to as "The Great Bottom"...

Looks a lot like Caddo Lake Texas which is the only natural lake in Texas. At one time there was boat/barge traffic from Houston to Caddo

Once saw a video on TV of a cypress swamp like that in LA where the trees were just sinking straight down and disappearing... which at first seemed impossible with the depth of the water .... but what had happened was a nearby mining company had been sucking salt out way down below and they had messed up and not filled the void in right and the swamp was falling in it... I think a nearby small town was evacuated and may have been condemned...

It is indeed a large area. It includes the bottom land of the Hatchie and forks of the Forked Deer rivers. Extends from Brownsville, TN to Jackson TN. Wildlife abounds. Deer, rabbit, squirrel, foxes, musk rats and beaver. And waterfowl make the area stopping points during migration, and heron, egrets, osprey, hawks and bald eagles are seen often. And fishing for catfish, bream and crappie is good. And for those who appreciate them, frogs and turtles. Much of the area is a National Wildlife Refuge and fishing/hunting are permitted in season.

Incidentally that river is the "Fork-ed Deer River."
