Cylinder length question.

Is there any difference in the length of the cylinder of the 357 NM BHs and the 41s, 44s and 45s? Not the mid frames. I'm talking about the regular production NM Blackhawks. I don't have a 357 cylinder here to check, but have heard the 357s are shorter. Thanks in advance.

I've found a difference of .010 between the Blackhawk 45 and the large framed Vaquero 45. Why that is, who knows? Just measured a 9mm cylinder of a new model which was 1.976 and a 45acp cylinder from a new model and it measures 1.964.

It's been my experience that the cylinder length is proportional to the caliber. I don't mean O.A.L., but the "effective length" from the ratchet pad to the muzzle end of the cylinder.

I believe this is done to prevent a larger calibre cylinder from being "dropped in" behind a smaller calibre barrel.

You KNOW where that would lead.........

Answer to your question Yes. The Barrel on the 357 large frame new model is set back farther.
