Correct way to measure cylinder length?

See photo, caliper is across maximum distance across cylinder boss and ratchet flats opposite end. Reading/results are 1.6185”.

This is a NM 22 WIN MAG cylinder.

Is this the correct way and place to measure this?

yessir as the letters suggest, "OAL" over all length.......

1.62 " seems to be the 'standard' size we generally see so ; yes that is how to measure it.

Well confusion can rear its ugly head.
That would be the way to measure a cylinder for buying, selling and fitting to a different gun.
But for reloading one would just measure the cylinder length minus the ratchet and gas ring.
This can be important for OAL with long, heavy bullets.
Just sayin.

I’ve got 22 mag NM cylinders in alloy and stainless and trying to figure where they came from .

I have several Bisley revolvers I could use them with, but have not decided what I will do with them. I can not find a serial number on the front of either cylinder.

I’ve got 2 Bisley’s that I had the factory fit cylinders to before shipping, so I’ve got to be certain what I’ve found is not from one of those.

should have the LAST 3 digits of the guns serial number, stamped ( electric pencil) etched on the front of the cylinder but have seen it on the rear too soo gotta look either way....better to have NO numbers, than the wrong numbers, can always "remark" them to match, once the cylinder is found proper fit ( timed to lock up on ALL six chambers)and safe to use in that gun........
