Unless the pistol is mechanically defective it should not be capable of firing out of battery. The only way to determine that is by close visual inspection.
Over the years I have seen one semi-auto release the striker prior to the slide being fully locked up, but what happened was the firing pin strike was too light and far off center to ignite the primer.
But to reiterate, the pistol in question would need to be evaluated carefully to see if something has worn or failed and is permitting fire control actuation before achieving full lockup.
