Crap Guns That Can be Decent With Work

The derringer in my avatar ( used to prove that I don't have to over-compensate ), is a Bearman Big Bore- a re-named Cobra ring-of fire gun. It came in as pretty much junk. HOWEVER, I rebuilt the safety, extractor, and most importantly eased trigger tension. Makes for a pretty good and trusted den gun now. Any of you turned junk into gold?

Taurus 605. It took a crap load of filing, polishing and sanding to get that thing to run correctly

I tried a couple of 'junk' handguns. Wasn't worth the effort getting them to function. I'm happy it worked for you.
Too many 'good' guns on the market to mess with a clunker. IMHO

I have been thru a double handful of rg rohms, all da 22s and da 38s, made them all either work, or work better, still have a 38, swapped the 2" for a 4". Have been thru most of a dozen jennings .22s, cleaned up and a few tweaks, let them all go. And a bucket of fie/tanarmi/ roughrider/et.c.,, they are all descended from herbert schmudt's, still have one old 6-1/2" and several of tge newer 9 round ones. Q/C is spotty, some miss the blue loctite on the barrel threads step and you can remove the barrel by hand. Picked up a very beatup pre model 10 m&p ,38, am learning my way thru it, a partsbox sort of custom, on the order of yer grandads jalopy; tight and smooth where it needs to be, ugly evrywhar else..

Telling us that you "don't have to compensate" is, in itself, a form of compensation.

Many decades ago,, I owned & used a few guns of "lesser brands" that seemed pretty good. But actually using them,, a lot,, revealed the lower quality of the metal parts, and required rebuilding. So I decided to invest in stronger guns, of better quality,, to keep me from having to rebuild guns,, especially when replacement parts weren't always available.

I don't think that I've ever bought a crap gun. I was given one in settlement of a debt which I traded immediately. It was a Targa GT32 and had a disconcerting tendency to go off with no on touching it. I guess that it was an early SIG.

Why would one buy a "crap" gun anyway? I can't imagine someone seeing a low price gun/low quality/bad reputation and saying "I will take it" with the intention of making it into a real shooter". Just buy a decent gun to start with....unless you are buying it on a street corner and its wrapped in a brown paper bag.

Some of the imported Tokarevs that had the mandated added safety were crap.
Remove the safety and they worked perfectly.

Most Glocks can be fixed by changing the slide, frame, barrel, trigger, and magazine.

My ex bought me a Davis P380 when she first got into guns and shooting. (hey, she didn't know any better and she thought $69.95 was a hot deal for a brand new gun. ) small but heavy Jam-o-matic and keyholed about every round when it did work. I finally just gave it away. (With full disclosure of all it's issues)

I’ve worked on some crappy guns that were given to me.

If I’m buying, Ruger S&W Beretta Sig Walther are all affordable. No need to buy junk.

Early on, they were budgetary concerns (very cheap!) and experimentation, considered expendable ( NOT disposable!), but the old pre-model-10 is shaping up to be a keeper that dont need no fingeyprints wiped offn it.

I bought one for 100, something was wrong with the added safety. Figured it out and it was fine, traded it in on something else later.

junk is the gun that has a better chance, if it does fire of destroying body parts instead of targets. they are good to turn in for food coupons in liberal cities

the only crap guns worth spending time on are ones where others gave up on the gun, it didnt cost anything, was one step away from scrap bin or torch......and you save it.

Most that were recovered during a weaps check were all scratched up, missing rear sight, terrible condition. They got passed around that "element" a lot. Later on, when ORC became a major threat the guns got better. There was (still is) big money for the "element" working as pawns for ORC groups. They normally recruit/bait thugs into their employ by providing a place to sleep/get high, drugs, money and guns.

I do own a Glock. It's a first gen Model 21 in 45 ACP. It is new never been fired, still sitting in it's Tupperware box. I think I got it in 1985?
