My wife got her CC permit so she could carry a gun in her car. Now, she wants to carry it in her purse. Does anyone have a recommendation for a purse that isn't priced like something from Ivanka?

Here's a variety of styles and prices. http://thewellarmedwoman.com/ccw-purses

The problem I see with these (and I've looked at quite few with my wife) is that none of them I've seen have any kind of fitted holster (kydex or formed leather) integrated into the compartment. It's just a side or bottom zippered pocket that the pistol just flops around in. Not my idea of a good carry option.

Here's an article you might find enlightening:

These arent cheap but they are first rate. I bought my wife one (I let her pick it out) for an anniversary gift and she loves it which makes her happy to carry it daily.

My wife has two from GunTotenMamas, they function well as purses, look good and are very well thought out. Her LCR is completely concealed, well anchored in a holster that uses Velcro to hold it in the exact position that's comfortable for her.

Food for thought:

The trouble with purses, when used for CCW, is that they can be quickly separated from their owner/carrier, before they're aware of what's happening.

Many purse-snatchers approach quickly/quietly from behind the victim, slashing the purse strap free with a razor knife.

For that reason, both my wife & younger daughter carry on their person.

All real CC purses have straps that are steel reinforced throughout the strap, the buckle is made from steel and is very strong, and they should always be carried cross body. Because of her purse my wife always, always, always has her gun with her, she would never have a gun with her without purse carry. Her hobo purse has been searched and because no one can see or feel the gun she's been armed when I can't be.

She makes some good points. The difficulty of concealment for women, especially attractive young women, is their desire to show a lot of skin/body shape. This could drive a change in clothing styles/fashion if the current trend of concealed carry for women continues. Probably not as extreme as burkas, but perhaps back to the early 1900's/late 1800's.

My wife likes the "Gun Toten Mama purses and rarely carries her purse just in her hand, she knows that when carrying the purse needs to be secured. The GTM purses come in a myriad of sizes and styles.

We teach a lot of ladies shooting. And carrying a gun is part of what we teach. Due to ladies styles of clothing, as well as how they wear their clothes,,, it can be a challenge.
Frustrated middle child,,, (Amanda,) has done fashion shows highlighting ladies & carrying guns. We recently got a copy of the most recent show, and it's a good thing to see.

Purse carry has it's faults,, as it's "off person" and not all purses can be carried cross chest, or are properly built. Some do have the steel re-enforced straps to assist in retention during an attack. But the best advice I can offer is to shop around and find the type, style & such that offers the features necessary for the lady. Now, there are many out there. Coronado Leather, Galco,, both top notch & high quality. (We prefer Coronado.) And there are others mentioned above. Miss Penny just recently got a small one from Gun Totin' Mama's. She likes it for her CCW of her Ruger LCR.

But when discussing the cost,, remember,, we spend a fair amount on a quality holster,,, and a purse requires more work to build. Quality carry is necessary & not always inexpensive. Your life may depend upon it,, so choose wisely.
Plus,, ladies do like to have different purses for different days & events. More than one will be often required.

I always wear jeans and a blouse hanging loose, so concealed carry IWB or OWB (with a blouse with a long tail) is no problem for me. It looks like it might be a bit slow and awkward to pull a CCW from a purse carry.
