Computer question..windows 10

I see several threads about keeping Windows 10 out of my life but I'm one of the old men that still needs a dial telephone....Here are a couple of questions to try and untangle the tech talk that is like a foreign language...

First off I was told about the Windows update (it was not a security update but was supposed to be a "link" to the constant Windows block popping up to "urge" my installation of 10...I was told to uninstall that update and that would block Windows 10 activity....I did so and lo and behold the constant "reminders" to upgrade to 10 went away...I don't recall the update number but when I was told to look for it..there it was and I removed it. Will that continue to prevent Windows 10 from sneaking into my pc that is running 7?

I do very limited "work" on my pc...send and receive e mails...store pictures from my phone and digital camera or scanner...access some web sites like the R/F and a few others...look at Google earth and do normal browsing to find answers to things, etc...that's about it...now with that in mind should I disable the automatic updates that are currently in the "automatic upgrade" mode or will that create a security problem? I am on a wireless router and my PC has Sophos...I used Firefox and DuckDuck go... I've never had any virus problems or issues at all.

Finally ....where can I buy a dial phone?

Any help on the computer 10 questions much appreciated...and I'm still learning to walk and talk so tech talk is all Greek to me..

Start Windows Update, get where you can Change Settings and see if you can select the option that's sort of like Notify Me About Updates. If it's like the Windows version I'm using you will then be shown the updates when they are available, Tuesdays, and can click on links to research each one before you install it.

Check a few thrift stores or estate sales for dial up phones. I saw a bunch at a local thrift store last week.

Not for nothing, Windows 10 is a perfectly fine operating system and a free upgrade for just another couple of months. It runs faster than Windows 7 on slower processors and less memory. So, especially if you have an older computer, seriously consider upgrading.

I've done all of my PCs (I have three of them, plus my wife's, and my Mom's, for a total of five at home, plus the one in my office at work) and I'm very happy with Windows 10. There's a small learning curve, but basically it's pretty straightforward, even moreso if you only use your computer for a few things, as you say you do.

Try it. You can always uninstall it, if you don't like it. But, I'm guessing you'll like it just fine. It's the best Windows yet and the least painful update Microsoft has ever put out there. Not to mention Microsoft has said they will never stop supporting it. That's a big deal, in my opinion.

(And this coming from a guy who has a dial phone on the nightstand next to his bed, for those nights when the power goes out!).

This is true. We have most of our clients upgraded to Ten already and only a few minor issues. The general consensus is that it's much better than 8 or 8.1!

I'm running 10 and was running 8.1 on another comoyter prior to this.

I like 10 quite a lot.

As I recall there are/were some privacy issues with 10. Personally as an old dos dinosaur I prefer not to have anyone have access to my machines. As with Vista you can beat it into submission. But you shouldn't have to.

ARRRGHH somehow I pushed the wrong button and windows 10 installed its a obamination! I will have to get my computer pal to help me recover my old system- they say you can do that withing 30 days of getting tricked into #10 windows 10!

I have been putting up with the pop ups for a long time afraid I might screw something up and guess what they installed it on me anyway it was messed up for a few days but running fine now I don't really see a difference

Why in this day and age would anyone want a dial phone? Just get a push button phone and not worry about it. And yes, they do work when the power is out. When I needed to replace my OLD phone, I went to Walmart and got a real nice one with BIG buttons for under $20, I think. Lots of nice features on it too.

Win 7, Win 8 or Win 10. Everybody's going to have their own opinions about them. I went with Win 7 because Win 98 went obsolete for what I was doing. I looked at Win 8 but was turned off by the idea that it would be able to run the rest of the stuff around the house. (The one to rule them all.) And I have nothing for it to rule. So just more overhead that I'll never use. Win 10? Free? When did Microshaft ever give anything away for free? Mark my words, you will pay for it sooner or later! Even though I don't know how to use it, Linux is looking better and better all of the time. Just my $0.02 worth.

Some of us far prefer the "good old days"...lots of talk about phones...We wanted a cell phone but they were way to complicated with way too many features so I got busy and designed and built exactly what we wanted...makes calls and takes pictures period!!

FWIW, I bought a new HP laptop ($298 @ WallyWorld) last November because my old HP laptop died after only 8 years ($198 @ Walmart, back then), and Windows 10 was already installed.

While different than the obsolete Windows of my old laptop, it took only a day or so for me to become familiar with Windows 10 - and at least I will no longer be denied access many online websites, as was common with my old laptop before it died.
