Darian, from the technical department of Microsoft, just called to inform me that my computer was having problems. So I gave him my log in password to allow him to have remote access so that he could fix it. The impressive thing is that a huge corporation would bother to call me at least weekly to make sure my computer is functioning properly. And they must do that for a lot of people because I can hear them all chattering in the background.

We had one of those a while back. My husband loves those calls, he went along for about 5 minutes without giving any information and then just said, truthfully, we are on a Mac.

Well it must be nice that you get calls from such caring people that are looking out for your best interest. I mostly just get calls reminding me of my multiple tax irregularities and that the local police will be coming to arrest me if I don't resolve them immediately.

I'm not sure my memory is that long, but it seems it was something like
that convinced me to get an answering machine. All of my messages have
started with "Hi! This is Pat, and I use the answering machine to screen
all my calls."

Strange . . . since I got the answering machine I have not received a call
anything like that. :roll:



I still get three to five per day that do not leave messages.
I guess my voice is too abrasive. :roll: . . 8)

I used to get emails from Africans, telling me that I was "the lucky one". They would ask for bank acct info, and I would make stuff up.
Then I would get another email, that told me the info was wrong. So then then, I would say "Oh? Try this." And they would. Ha, ha, ha!
Life can be a blast.

I get a lot of phone calls from a Seattle area code. They leave messages sometimes, all in Chinese....I don’t speak a word of Chinese.

I like the IRS calls received on my answering machine. I must owe them about six million dollars by now.

I think I talked to Darian a couple months ago. When I suggested that I thought I was being scammed he lost his temper and told me I should do nasty things to Mom , then called me names that suggested I already had!

The 'IRS' will leave you a message to call them back immediately or you will be arrested.
I really don't understand... the folks on the NCIS program can track down the location of anyone on a phone, why can't our law enforcement? Y'all know me, I'm a stanch believer in human rights for all people regardless but I honestly think if we (USA) tracked some of these crooks down (regardless of what country they are in) kicked in the door and dropped a serious load of whup ass on them it might slow some of this down.

Over the years I have also gotten a few calls from someone, informing me that they want to do something to fix or upgrade my "Microsoft Computer". I politely inform them that my two Epsons, a QX-10 and a QX16 are working fine. They always hang up without a word.

Both computers have worked without a glitch, to my satisfaction since I bought them in 1981. I have one on each ranch and have never been sorry that I bought them. They do not have the "bells and whistles" of modern computers, but they do my work and I never have any problems with them. I am typing this on the QX16. Both permit me to do things that even modern Microsoft computers cannot do. Of course, there some things they cannot do, but I don't need those things.

Just for information, they were not cheap in 1981. I remember paying about $4,500 for the QX10 and about $5,200 for the QX16. Using today's inflated dollars, even those prices are probably less than I would have paid to own, upgrade and repair Microsoft software computers all those years.

You sure got your money out of them. I’m intrigued, do they have 5 1/4” floppy disks, does it use DOS and obviously you can get online, something that really didn’t exist as we know it in ‘81. I can’t imagine a computer that old working with newer programs. I’m just surprised the hard drive hasn’t given up the ghost yet.
