One of you really smart guys check out GunBroker item #216300984. Did Ruger ever chrome plate a single six at the factory?

I'm not one of the smart guys but;

"this auction is for a very rare ruger single six 22 revolver. it is an early flatgate model in factory chrome plated finish. A call to the Ruger Records Dept verifies production date of this Single-Six to be March 1956. There is no information on the Chrome plating, it says standard single-six in the company records."

1. Ruger records told him no information on chrome plating.

2. He says in factory chrome plated finish.

3. This gun is 20,000 after known chrome plated guns.

4. Poor job of removing anodizing from grip frame. Many places remain black and no or poorly ploished. The wheel of chrome Rugers show black anodized grip frames.

5. Others

So #1 indicats NO
#2 indicates his opinion not fact NO
#3 indicates doubtfull
#4 indicates doubtfull
#5 indicates there are other reasons, that I do not know, that indicates YES and/or NO

I am sure the right people will add to this discussion.

I'm of the opinion that if it doesn't letter from the factory as being plated, then it wasn't. If Ruger had made them, they would have also cost at least $7.50 more for the finish...so if no special mention in the records, then there's no way to verify anyway.

I agree with both of you. I sent the guy an email a few days ago questioning the plating, and stating that I didn't think it was original. He really got PO'd with me.

Bigedd, they will ALWAYS get "pissed out at any of us..." when you ever try to "correct/state the facts Maam...."so don't even try, besides, the plating was NOT done in the factory when they had stuff plated, nickel OR chrome, it was down the street at Superior Plating, so tell him to check with ME, I have big shoulders, and I"ll be glad to help him out.............
As grandpa used to say, "don't wrestle with the pig, you'll only get dirty and the pig likes it..."we've had ,seen and sold LOTS of them over the years, and NOT a single one of them would letter, they look right as rain,, and the time periods are there, BUT without "provenance" its ONLY a "pig in a poke...."

Flatgate, looks like someone forgot to plate the grip frames, just like the ones on the Ruger display wheel!

Had a line on a really nice looking plated flatgate, contacted the factory and nada. Big clue was the plated grip frame...

Beautiful gun, you photos inspire me to keep looking! LOL

What they really forgot was the SR inside of the Logo........

Flatgate, always amazed on how you come thru with those photos, and pronto too! LOL

Makes you wonder why when people try to copy/imitate the "real thing" they either polish or plate the grip handle?!?!!?

Yup exactly like those!

Interestingly speaking about medallion variations, just got what has to be a clean-up .44 Bisley Vaquero in a 5-1/2" barrel with imitation ivory grips. The grip medallions had the old style emblem, but with with I believe neck feathers, but no SR or R emblem in there.

Was surprised to see this, photos I've seen have the silver squashed emblem with the SR logo. Not certain what happened here.

I have been fortunate and have "grabbed" any images I can.

Speaking of images..... how about one of your grips?

:D

On vacation but will be back home and will do.

About time I figured out how to do this and get one posted.

I looked on Gunbroker this morning and found one like mine, but had the new silver medallions with what looks like only the "R", so it too appears to be a clean-up gun, so now really wondering what happened! The gun in the ad is a Davidson's gun and it looks like they must have done a good number of these clean up guns.

Turns out this is posted by member Acrylictnk, maybe he can comment on what the medallions look like on the ones he has available.

Have been wanting one, and fell over when one showed up at a local gun dealer.

Yup, I know just look at and follow the stickey! LOL
