There's a backup site at CalGuns.org but it's like sixth grade with a substitute teacher.

I was asking for discussion of CA gun law to help feed my addiction.

Microstamping. Guaranteed to p*ss you off if you haven't heard all about it.

If so, are there any efforts to demonstrate it's a waste of effort, and therefore should be repealed?

Yeah, it's been argued in court, great demonstration how it's only a fantasy, no practical use, can be defeated by criminals with a 5 minutes of filing. And how you can go to a gun range, pick up everyones microstamped brass and drop them at your next crime scene.

Right now we're waiting for the 9th Circuit to rule. Lots of waiting. Months. Probably more Months.

It's a Kamela Harris project. It was passed in the Legislature and signed into law some years ago, but the law had a provision that it would go into effect only when the State Attorney General (Currently K. Harris) certified that the microstamping technology was available and effective. Which of course it isn't. But Kamela formally declared that it was a couple of years age, triggering the Law.

Which requires that any new Handgun added to the famous CA Handgun Roster of guns approved for sale had to meet all the previous requirements (Loaded Chamber Indicator, Magazine Safety, etc, etc.) as well as having microstamping. Which is only a fantasy of course. So there have been no new guns added to the Roster for more than a year.

And the guns already on Roster will gradually drop off as their manufacturers stop making them and stop paying the yearly fee to keep them on the Roster.

So we get to live under the heavy hand of the microstamping law even if there is no such thing as microstamping.

There are no Magazines of greater than 10 rounds left in all of California. It's the darnedest thing.

A couple of years ago, all us CA gun owners got together for a big BarBQ and recreational shooting meet. The shooting range was across the lake from the BarBQ so after lunch we all got on the boat with our guns, ammo and magazines. The boat was a little over loaded, there are several million of us CA gun owners.

About half way across there was a sudden thunderstorm and a gust of wind kicked up a big wave that washed into the boat, splashing all of the standard capacity magazines into the lake, leaving only the 10 rounders behind. Who would have believed it?

So as far as I know there haven't been any standard capacity magazines turned in yet in LA City.

Gavin Newsom our evil Lt. Governor (former mayor of San Francisco) has just announced a Bloomberg backed initiative they are trying to get onto the Nov 2016 ballot. All they need are 350,000 signatures to qualify, and they'll probably have 20 million to spend on advertising. This new initiative would outlaw possession of all magazines greater than 10 round capacity, no matter how long you've owned them. Sell them, move them out of state, smash them or turn them into the cops. Thank God we don't have to face that choice with all of them at the bottom of the lake.

This initiative would outlaw all internet ammo sales. All ammo would only be sold face to face with your ID, type of ammo and number of rounds recorded and sent to the cops. And you have to have an ammo buyers card which is renewed yearly with a background check and a fee. Newsom basically took all the worst gun bills that haven't made it into law in the last 5 years and thought he try the initiative process.

There could be another ammo buying frenzy come next August or so if the polls show Hillary is leading or this Newsom initiative is ahead in the polls.

They could learn from Idaho exam circa 1962 or so. As a youngster there, I suddenly learned I had to register/sign for /WITH ID all 22LR rounds which previously had been no problem with anyone including LEO.

After signing bales of forms for several years, the law was changed as nothing but headaches, paperwork and BS had been generated. Even in a pre-computer age, this bad idea was finally recognized for what it was.

I also find it fascinating that Newsom has the state provide HIM with round the clock, state paid for (more than a million $$$ per year) armed security for his own safety, and yet he would deny ordinary citizens the same rights to protect themselves. Disgusting HYPOCRITE!!

I'll bet Bloomberg in NY also has armed guards, yet is spending millions of his own money in various states, to pass more resteictive gun laws.

Article in the LA Daily Worker (Times) this week said ZERO. I'm 25 miles east and still have my std capacity mags I purchased prior to 1-1-2000.
I remember many years ago we had to let them write our drivers license number down when we bought ammo. It was eventualy dropped because it served no purpose - even though they were able to figure out where Sirhan Sirhan bought the ammo he shot RFK with. Amazingly enough it was the gun shop closest to his house - great detective work.

Good old Gavin Newsome...he was married to Kimberley Gilfoyle on Fox news..they were destined to be the "new Kennedy's"...She moved on to Fox News and dumped good old Gav...Newsome is an interesting piece of work....San Francisco Mayor and defied the laws to validate gay marriage and to have a sanctuary city...Now running for Governor...soon to appear on the National scene (scheme) probably to run as President..hang onto your hat if that happens...you think the choice with Saunders and Overthehillary are grotesque..he'd make them look like Reagan.

California's gun law folks are like the Energizer bunny..just keep on going and going and going. We had State Senator Yee that was a huge proponent for anti gun legislation...he was on the last ballot to run for Secretary of State...then the knock came on his door...he was indicted for illegal gun running and a host of other crimes in cahoots with some of the major "Tong" figures from China Town...he plead guilty to one count...interesting thing is that his name was still on the ballot after indictment (his bust came too late to alter the ballot) and he got a significant number of votes...so just proves voters here simply don't care.Yee plead guilty to one count of felony racketeering and the potential is for a major prison sentence..don't know the outcome...it may still be in the penalty phase.

Legislature reconvenes first of the year. I'm sure they'll have some imaginative bills for us by February.

This Gavin Newsom thing I been talking about is a proposed initiative, bypass the Legislature, get a few hundred thousand signatures, it goes straight to the General Election next November, voted on by the electorate, pass or fail. If you got 20 million $$s or so (say from Blomberg or some such) you can pay for signature gatherers and TV advertising, have a good chance to pass it no matter how fouled up it is. You never know though. Money isn't always enough, just sometimes.

It was up earlier this afternoon (briefly) then went right back down. The new rumor is that it may not be back until next Monday. :mrgreen:

Seems to be mostly up, a little buggy/glitchy. Hopefully they'll get it worked out. Some poor SOB IT guy had to work all through Thanksgiving replacing hardware and getting several Web Sites/eMail Systems back online.

CalGuns is back up with all guns blazing. Was about 5 days to restore service. Still missing some little things like some folks avatar pictures or email notification of new posts.

Story being told is that servers and back ups were in the same facility which had cooling failure and then a series of servers failing due to overheating. I do not understand all the details, although it seems like poor planning/engineering from an ignorant outsiders point of view.

Clearly I need to spend more time on Ruger Forum so as to spread my internet addiction withdrawal risk to more than one location.
