The Wall Comes Down

The brick wall beside our lower driveway got damaged during Helene and it was not really stable anymore, I park my work van right beside it, we've been waiting on a brick layer to show up for about 4 months now.....Yesterday I decided to start to take some of it down.... here's a simple short video on you tube of me removing a small portion:

Can the bricks be cleaned up and reused?

But holy cow, this just seems to be taking forever! It’s been almost a year and you’re still doing demolition and cleanup.

Any more stories from the world of insurance? Or has that been all straightened out?

Kevin, even after over 9 months,, there is still a HUGE amount of work that hasn't even started to repair or rebuild so many places in our area. It's estimated that just the roads alone are going to take 3-4 years to get back open. Many houses & places damaged haven't been touched yet either.
The amount of devastation is so massive,, that many can't fathom it. There are still bridges, roads, houses, businesses etc that between the crappy FEMA attitudes,, the insurance companies, the grant processes, the state & federal budget stuff,, I expect it'll a decade or more before things get back to some form of normalcy.

Blume working on his place is just one small example of what is going on.

Had a similar disaster a few years back. Fortunately, we only lost a garbage can to it. :oops:

Almost looks like that wall was just a layer of bricks layer on top of an existing wall. The wall that was brought down doesn't appear to have any rebar in it.

Just bricks... and concrete bricks at that... can't be cleaned.... which is a good thing... I've spent too many years cleaning bricks.... some work will need to be done on the block wall behind all this...

I spent 4 hours this morning cleaning and cutting into the bricks on the ends so that the new work can be tied in... and cleaning off the remains mortar along the remaining base .... here's a picture from that:

Was the failed wall pressed up solidly against the remaining wall or was there a gap between them? :unsure:

It's pretty obvious they weren't connected at all, :(

Thanks for the explanation. I hope everything gets back to normal, sooner rather than later.
