Man Down

As I mentioned I took a little trip to the ER recently. If you want to know just how screwed up the medical industry is, financially speaking gather round. The bill for my visit was over $35,000. That's right thirty five thousand dollars. My insurance paid about $1,400. My share $0. If the hospital ER charges $35,000. and accepts $1400 as full payment. Somebody is committing fraud somewhere. How can the bill be 25 times what is actually paid?

While I am usually against governmental involvement in private financial matters, I really think it's about time the feds at least talked about it.

They did the same thing to me.... 4 days in the hospital was $395,000... insurance settled on $97,000. The answer is simple... they come up with that high price initially before they determine if you have insurance and if you don't there is no way you are going to be able to pay and so it is listed as a bad debt and is tax deductible....

I suffered a TIA (mini stroke) a couple weeks ago. I could be convinced that is what you encountered.

I could not lift my foot up off the floor. Actually my whole right side was weak. About the time it took to think through my issue it had passed.

Long story short get a physician involved. Right now they have me taking a regular aspirin every day.

A lot of posts from good people trying to help you. Pray on it......I hope you feel better and get this figured out....

I have never had an issue with fainting, and no issues with lightheadedness, other than alcohol induced or standing up too fast. 2 years ago I caught, what I thought was, a minor cold. No big deal, except for one minute I am standing in the kitchen, the next I am reeling around like a drunk while my vision pinpointed. After a few seconds, it was gone and I thought I was fine. About an hour later I had to go pick my son up from a weekend high school soccer trip. Standing in the parking lot talking to another parent and really good friend and it happened again. This time was worse. Way worse. Took a few minutes until I was able to be supported back to my car. Son drove me home.

No problems for 6 or so months, until we went to Mexico for vacation in late June/early July. It was hot, it was muggy, I constantly looked like I had gone swimming fully dressed. We decided to go into town to do some shopping, walking around and it hit me again. Knees weak, full tunnel vision, roaring in my ears. My son helped me find Gatorade and 32 ounces later I felt much better.

I make sure I stay hydrated now, pretty sure the illness caused dehydration, and I absolutely know what the issue was in Mexico. I do not care what I am doing, I am drinking water, over 64 oz per day.

My guess is that they report the $35,000 - $1,400 = $33,600 as a "loss" on their taxes.
