Caffeine?

If you had already gone a couple weeks without caffeine. Already passed all the withdrawal issues. You were able to function normally.

Would you go back, or stay off of it?

I drink unsweetened iced tea, maybe 40mg of caffeine in a serving. I might drink one or two a day for a month or two then none for weeks. never noticed any withdrawal type of symptoms, maybe not enough caffeine or enough time drinking it. I'll use caffeine tablets 100mg as a stimulant at 1/2 and full marathons, usually a tablet and a half about 30 minutes before the start and on the full taking a gel with caffeine ( 100mg ) at about 14 miles and again at 20-21 range. Seems to give a mental boost for the last 4-5 miles and help with the pain, stomach usually takes it ok, but better find a porta-john shortly after the run.
My cardiologist is not big on lots of caffeine on a daily basis, sorta ok with moderate amounts at random times.
I think it also depends how you get the caffeine, better in coffee or tea than say MT Dew with tons of sugar and an extra 300 calories.
Of course two Tylenol and a bottle of Mt Dew will make you fell pretty good for a few hours for a hockey game....followed by pizza and cold beer.

I would go back to drinking coffee because I like it. I like how it wakes me up in the morning or gives me a boost in the afternoon or keeps me from falling asleep right after a big dinner. But I did have to almost give it up when I was having bad afib and now after some procedures I have got that afib under control, I have gone back to having a little coffee now and then but not strong coffee.

I have stopped drinking coffee several times over the years, but it didn't take. I always started again, I used to drink a lot of caffeinated soda; now I don't drink any soda. Coffee is my kryptonite, I guess.

Got my Caffeine from soda. Stopped about 3 years ago. Yeah, withdrawals from the caffeine and the sugar for about 3 weeks. Not going back although at times, I can smell the soda and get a craving

When the big toilet paper shortage started.
The first thing I stocked up on was coffee.
I wasn't going to take any chances.
That's me, too. I keep six 3# cans plus a 3# can I just opened. No sense chancing it LOL

I gave up caffeine a couple of years ago. Do not miss it. Water from a zero water pitcher is my drink of choice.
What do you drink when you really want to get wild, Zero Water on the rocks? :)

I've stopped drinking coffee for a week or two a couple of times, never had any noticeable withdrawal effects.

OTOH, I quit smoking around 15 years ago and gave it a 2 out of 10 for difficulty, mainly because I went cold turkey on morphine many years ago and gave that a 10 out of 10, so maybe small withdrawals are lost in the noise level for me.

Y'all are mixing three different conversations together here .

1. Implied sugar/ calories - Regular and low/ no carb whatever are each available with or without caffeine .

2. Proper hydration is important . If you do caffeine , make sure to drink enough water/ non caffeine to keep hydrated.

3. If your Caffeine is balanced with water intake ,probably not an issue unless you have a unique health situiation .

Thanks for all the comments and help.

For now I have no reason to even be awake. After I heal up I’ll have to figure out if I can function without caffeine.

I’ve been on a forced detox of sorts slowly letting things back in to my life. For the short term no carbonation and no caffeine.

Carbonation in itself doesn't hurt anything . If that's shorthand for avoiding sugar laden soda , that could be part of a plan .

Sugary sodas have been out of my life for a long time.

They say carbonation hurts your bones. True or not? Who really knows? I figure I really don’t get anything out of it. So I might as well avoid it.

I just googled it. I guess now they say carbonation doesn’t hurt anything. It still doesn’t help anything.

After I heal up and aren’t afraid to be gassy, I’ll go back to seltzer water. I’ll still avoid diet sodas, which was my caffeine source. I got sick of coffee years ago.

If I need the caffeine kick I might try green tea.

Caffeine never gave it much thought. I do have a cup or two of coffee in the morning but not always!
When I do not have coffee I do not notice the difference. Maybe I should just give it up!
One thing I do not need to think about!

The wife and I both drink coffee, we like the taste, but we have cut back on the caffine. We don't drink coffee all day, mainly at breakfast. We go with the half-caf and we haven't noticed any major change. When out wife asks decaf and I drink whatever the service staff has in their hand. Very rarely do we drink soda/pop/whatever it is called in your neck of the woods, she drinks flavored bottled water and I drink bottled water (plain) or iced tea so I'm still getting caffine.

Have to agree with what was said, if you drink a lot of caffinated drinks, be sure to drink non caffine drinks also. Caffine is a diuretic so you need make sure to keep hydrated.

I went on a five day water-only fast and suffered from some bad headaches, partly due to not getting my morning mug of magic bean juice. By the end of that time, the headaches had subsided, and I tried going a few more days without java. Then my wife made a pot of Sumatra Mandheling (one of my faves) and I had a cup. Found that it elevated my mood and made me feel mentally sharper, so caffeine is back in my diet in moderation. I drink it black or with just a teaspoon of heavy cream in it.
