this was my car in the 70's. drove it up to 1987. i put 150,000 miles on it. it was a poor mans porsche. 4cyl fuel injected monster in disguise. 135hp, got 30+mpg and was imported as a sedan, not a coupe. insurance was cheap. its was in the same catagory as the 240z, opel, and merc capri. grew up, got married, and traded it in for a 81 park ave.

If you got a ticket in the late 70's early 80's you were probably stopped by one of these (even if you thought you had a fast car).

Granted those cars were usually four door models with black an white two tone paint. But they had the same engine and tranny.
By the way, they only made about 9000 of the Sport Touring Editions shown. And it's still sitting in my driveway.

I worked nights all thru college. The '70 Super Sport was my gift to myself for graduating. Only had to borrow $950 from Dad to drive it home. The pic was taken in 1971 while on a date in Niagara Falls to a cutie that would later inherit the Ponch.

The '67 Catalina was Dad's gift to Mom for their 25th Anniversary. When he decided to sell it I would not hear of it. It then became my Wife's car and all in all it was in the family on the road for 27 years. The pic was taken in 1988.

I had a ‘78 Town Landau T-bird until 1988. 351 Windsor and a FMX transmission .

I would love to have a tii. I had a 71 2002, 79 320i, and an 87 535i

My mom had a 72 Swinger. It was pretty quick. Not what one thought of as a "mom car". She kept that until she bought her 90 Century. For a while in the 60's I cold brag my mom had more speeding tickets that the rest of the neighborhood combined. My older sis took the title away from her. The women in my family have lead feet.

First new car was a 1971 Chevy Vega I bought, sight unseen as I was coming home from the Philippines. Despite what other claim, mine was a good car and I drove the wheels off of it.

Then I graduated with an accounting degree in 1975, went to work for a Big 8 accounting firm, and started making the big bucks. So...

My next new car was a 1976 Toyota Celica 5 speed. Excellent car, but icy roads did it in. So I bought a 1977 Datsun 280Z. Wow! Only reason I sold it was that I was unable to teach my bride to drive a 5-speed. That's one car I REALLY wish I still had.

I like that color (y)

and if we're including 60's, I'll share my '67 gto I bought when I returned from desert storm. best eta 11.7 🍻

In the Spring of 1967 my fiance’s mom gave her a brand new Pontiac LeMans coupe - not a GTO, but the next trim down - white with red bucket seat interior, for her college graduation (and our wedding present).
Beautiful car….and fast for those days.
After we married in June and both started teaching in September, I totalled it when a drunk made a left turn in front of us on a highway near Austin.
Nobody was injured thanks to the newfangled seat belts that were now standard.
Several days later I bought a new ‘67 Chevy Malibu sport coupe (blue inside & out, 283 V8 with 3 on the tree).
It was the last ‘67 Chevelle on the dealership’s lot before the ‘68 models arrived. Paid $2,685. Drove it for five years and 70,000 miles.
Great cars!

Oldest son’s wife gifted him this ‘69 Rally Sport about 10 years ago…..
It’s his weekend driver.

My first car at 16(bought it myself) was a 1969 Z28. Had a bad engine when I got it. Pulled the small block and installed a 427, along with the original Muncie M22 4-speed and 4:11 rear gears. Yes, it was fast!
