Buying a Sig 1911

A friend has a Sig 1911 in 10mm that he wants to sell. I have offered to buy with a buyback if he ever wants it back. It looks almost new and fills tight. With the weather I have not gotten out to shoot it. I have never shot a single stack 1911 10mm but have shot the STI 6" 2011 in 10mm. Is there anything I should watch for when i can get to the range?

I would say just watch out for your wallet because you’re going to love putting excessive rounds down range and those boxes go pretty quick.

Don’t plan on finding the brass. My 10mm 1911 tosses brass quite vigorously.

The 1911 is very good about soaking up recoil. As far as I’m concerned the full power stuff feels like 40 in a plastic framed gun.

I guess if you are a 10mm person then go for it. Yep, that will be a bit costly... but then I also shoot 10mm, the cartridges are just necked down to 9mm.

Nope, that would be the .357 Sig, not a 9x23.

Lots of folks think the 357 Sig is from a necked down 40 cal but it really is a 10mm, 40 cal cartridge is too short. The confusion is often because a pistol will use the same recoil spring and ejector for both the 40 and 357sig.

I don't have any experience with a Sig 1911 & the only 10mm I've ever shot was a friend's RIA doublestack 1911 style pistol. I have long admired the Sig 1911's though. They are beautiful. I hope you enjoy your new purchase.

I carry a .357sig, always thought it was a 40.

I do like the 10mm. I have a S&W 1006, STI Perfect 10, and a EAA. Carried the STI 6" for several years then Arthritis hit my hands but still like the 10mm in very slow fire. Think I will jump on it.

Think you're referencing a 9x25 Dillon, which is also a necked down 10mm. Just not trimmed to almost .40 S&W length.

Well before commercial .357 Sig brass was available I've formed many hundreds of .40 brass to .357 Sig. The issue of a short neck needs to be addressed with a good crimp on a bullet.

Blume, thanks for the offer. I have not shot .357 Sig much lately but recently I got a Sig P229 Sport (one of my grail finds) and I have to make time for it.

I'm meeting a fellow from my old IPSC (before USPSA was formed) club who has some several hundred .357 Sig brass I'm supposedly picking up this week.

I'll be in touch if it falls through.

Speaking of 'Grail Finds' here was mine about two years ago:

Sig P226 SAO Legion ... pictured with 9mm rail with Romeo red dot sight and the slide below it is one chambered in 357 Sig.
