I have williams 5.5 inch ss bisley .45colt. I went shooting today and after a 150rd the transfer bar broke  is it worth it to ship to Ruger? is there chance of them sending out a paid shipping tag

Nope ~ send it to me and I will dispose of it for you.

Seriously, I'd guess "yes" and "yes" as answers to both your questions.

And when you replace it, remove the pinch that broke the other one!!!

If all else fails, PM your address and I'll send you one. I am pretty sure I have at least 3 or 4 in the parts box. Heck I might even get it there faster than Ruger.

One other question, is it the regular transfer bar or the stepped(or however you say it) one?

Mine broke on my Blackhawk Hunter, I ordered one from Brownells, got it two days later, and installed it myself. I didn't get a trigger job though.

On the stepped transfer bars, I almost always have to remove them and file the step down a bit to eliminate the pinch. Work slowly, and only remove enough to eliminate the pinch. After that, the transfer bar should last almost forever.

If you aren't familiar with the pinch, try this: empty the gun (duh), fully cock the hammer, squeeze and hold the trigger back, apply forward pressure on the hammer. If the hammer squeezes the transfer bar, some material needs to be removed, just until the transfer bar slips back down with the hammer still fully forward.

That should eliminate most of the broken transfer bars.

Good luck.

I wish I would of seen this before

I can't seem to find the link to the smith who installs a block on the face of the hammer to do away with the transfer bar. Another option...

I' have seriously considered that option if I could find some one who could do it with out keeping it for a year and was priced reasonably I would do it

I have a few spare hammers that I am going to experiment on. I will try to slowly build up weld with my mig and file it flat. Then I will mark the frame where the hammer drops the latch and place the hammer and trigger on the pins on the outside of the frame and align the hammer with the mark so I will know where to file a notch in the hammer for a half cock. I'll have to do this to allow it to be loaded without having to hold the hammer back to retract the firing pin. I suppose you could cut the notch anywhere that keeps the hammer back a bit. Wouldn't want to cut it too far back as it would increase the spring tension on the hammer and a slip could cause it to fire. But if you cut it at the point where the latch drops, you can remove the stud from the latch so the gate works independently of the latch if you ever decided to. Just a few random thoughts. Probably dangerous to think lol

dangerous to think yeah in my case if I stop to think I usually get hurt. I'll tell I on some shi uh stuff for my ms and it's kicking my a uh butt the thought of tearing into my gun just to replace the transfer bar is making my head hurt. It's always nice t have a incurable disease that won't kill but the treatment may.

ok ok I'll quit being a baby and pouting I know there is a lot of folks on here that have it way worse than me. My bad

I've removed the "transfer bar" pinch out of many Blackhawks and Single-Sixes and have had zero trouble with any of the guns.

Most of my "shooters" get "welded up" hammers and a half-cock loading notch cut.

I've decided to go ahead and try this on an extra Super hammer I have. Do you also set the half cock notch where the latch is dropped? And remove the stud from the latch? The hammer I am going to weld is one I relieved for the thicker transfer bar of an Anniversary revolver, so it is useless for anything but a thick transfer bar anyway.
