I have williams 5.5 inch ss bisley .45colt. I went shooting today and after a 150rd the transfer bar broke  is it worth it to ship to Ruger? is there chance of them sending out a paid shipping tag

sash said:On the stepped transfer bars, I almost always have to remove them and file the step down a bit to eliminate the pinch. Work slowly, and only remove enough to eliminate the pinch. After that, the transfer bar should last almost forever.
If you aren't familiar with the pinch, try this: empty the gun (duh), fully cock the hammer, squeeze and hold the trigger back, apply forward pressure on the hammer. If the hammer squeezes the transfer bar, some material needs to be removed, just until the transfer bar slips back down with the hammer still fully forward.
That should eliminate most of the broken transfer bars.
Good luck.
I' have seriously considered that option if I could find some one who could do it with out keeping it for a year and was priced reasonably I would do ittek4260 said:I can't seem to find the link to the smith who installs a block on the face of the hammer to do away with the transfer bar. Another option...

Most of my "shooters" get "welded up" hammers and a half-cock loading notch cut.
