brass gripframes

Is anyone aware of the origin of the recent brass gripframes that were sold on ebay? I am wondering who made them and if there will be more coming. I asked the seller but never got a response. I understand they are a bit undersized, but pretty good otherwise. I am interested to know because I have been working on casting some myself and if this guy can sell them for $85 I need to rethink how much I invest in this process. I was planning on doing Hunter, Dragoon, XR3, XR3-RED and Bisely gripframes, but sized properly so brass needs to be removed to make them fit. I'm curious now what a reasonable asking price for one might be now that so many were sold so cheap. Any thoughts and/or speculation are welcome...

What would you have to sell them for to make it worthwhile? I would think that there's a decent market for them.

The actual quality of the casting would be a factor. Offering a variety of different frames should be a plus as not everyone prefers the SBH version. They are still popular though as shown by the recent auctions. Could the molds be modified to prouce both 3 screw and new model dedicated frames?

The rear ears on my brass frame was maybe .010-.015" short where it met the frame on my Single Six Frame. Not a big deal to me, got to really look to tell. It may be different on different frames, I haven't checked yet. I have decided to put it on an OM 41 if it works out.

Newer production Blackhawks and Single Sixes have taller "ears" than older ones. I think it was to standardize the Bisley and Blackhawk lines. The brass frames sold on Ebay are probably 10 or so years old and made before the switch.

You will find that they sold for less than what the price a "new" brass frame should sell for.

New old stock of unknown quality. Turned out to be a good deal.
They generally worked ok.

Yep I think that the last short frame NM XR3-RED was casting#7
I don't think you will see anymore brass frames that are already drilled and just need an hour or so of fitting/buffing go for $85. I have sold quite a few finished ones for $300+
The good thing about those is they fit both new and old models.
I should have bought a bunch of them,but didn't:cry:

Surprised that didn't happen. The seller was content selling one at a time at every reasonable buy it now price. Made more people happy I think. See what they go for on resale.
