Brass grip frames

I'm just curious why the makers of brass grip frame quit producing them ? and it seems like there is enough demand for them that someone could sell quite a few if they began production of them. Or is there really not enough demand for the brass frame.

because they are so hard to do and get it "right"...lots of issues with casting and hole locations, and LOTS of scrap.............if it was so easy to do and make money at it, SOMEONE would be doing it..........then , on the OTHER just really what is the "market" for them???? think about it............

Yes, as Dan can verify, some of the last ones to come from Qualite (MK Tech, or whatever you want to call them) were pretty crappy. Had one that wasn't even close to being acceptable, sent it back and got another one in return that I haven't gotten around to fitting yet. I know the holes need opened up. Beyond that is anyone's guess at this point. May never make it out of my junk bin.

Maybe here on the forum but from an economic standpoint, it would be a disaster. The cost of yellow brass has gone through the roof and the grip frames would have to cost $300 to be profitable. Mine took me two hours to fit, it was so poorly done and I personally wouldn't buy another.

Yea, these are ready to go to the scrap recycler, dang things holes don't line up, way too much metal left on the sides, Grips don't fit worth a dern, some are even missing the locator pin.

A lot of good points brought up that I didn't even think about true I should have but I din't. I guess I should just be happy I do have one of some unknown origin and that I do like the way the stainless and blue looks together. thanks guys

. . . . a little FYI, Qualite/ MK Tech Brass Grip Frames were a Product of UTAH.

Cast is SLC.

I'm a tad farther north bur right now I'd rather be down there. it snowed all weekend and was 60 and sunny I got a sunburn from shooting yesterday. But today cold and rainy again.
That is very intersting about the casting from slc. When milt was over in Denver he built me a smolt for my 24th birthday and mt best freind was his appprentice for awhile. At the time he was working on the birdshead grip frame and saying Ruger had ripped him off. Since that time I've moved over here and lost track of milt

Milt & Karen moved to Kentucky, He went to work for a "Company/Paycheck". In a conversation w/ Karen (Milt's Wife) The Foundry was raising the price to cast them along with raise in the cost of materials and sales were not all that brisk.

I personally know the feeling, I manufactured a Grill, Yes I could sell them,, but not enough to make money,, just enough to work hard... and there's a BIG difference in the two. :roll:

At the right of this picture is a early Grip Frame, and on the left is a later GF. The idea was, Make the whole end solid and then one could Round Butt or Birdshead it fairly easy.
The black line is just that, a magic marker ,,, I have never done one.

Did you ever see the revolvers that Milt built I belive he called them great western or something like that. they were basicly a bh with a bull barrel slicked up action. they were very nice looking and he made one for the "shootist" hat was a gidt of some sort I can't really remember the whole story

I have not seen the bull barrel gun, but this gun has allways caught my eye.

Not good info, FGW... No phone # ... No Address & No Grip Frames.. :shock: :shock:

I suspect; They are a Web Store using Brownells for most of thier stock.

Brownells has been sold out for years.

I plan to someday do brass grip frames on my ROAs. When I do it will just be sending them off somewhere and having them plated. Works for me.

I think it was about 2 years ago someone on the forum sent out a grip frame for brass plating it would be interesting for them to do a follow up on how well it's holding up. I'm sure alot of people would be interested in hearing it. I know I would.
