Bonus bullet

Hello,

I have been reloading 45 ACP this weekend and have noted something that I wanted to share.

I purchased (4) bags of Remington 230 Gr FMJ-RN 100/bag at my local Cabelas.

As I completed loading my first tray of 100, I noticed that I had one bullet remaining. I started on my second 100 and on finishing that tray, I had two bullets remaining. I just finished my third bag of 100 and yes, now I have three.

It is nice to get a bonus bullet for each 100 I buy. At $22.99 per 100, it is no great deal but still a nice surprise.

Packaging indicates that the bullets are packaged by Black Hills Shooters Supply. (Green Bag)

I have shot these before and they perform very well.

Funny you should post this... I just finished loading 300 rounds of .223 with Hornady 53 grain V-max bullets. I had one bullet left over from three boxes of 100. Not quite as good as your bonus, but still....

It's been a while since I purchased any Sierra bullets but they used to "be packed for shipment - 101 to the box".

I got 60 extra 44 mag bullets one day at a LGS when I buying bulk bullets, he weighs them instead of counting must of set his scale wrong, I wondered why the bag seemed so heavy till I got home and counted them.

I've bought from bullet makers that intentionally add extra bullets incase you find a few that are flawed.

I buy Montana Gold bullets and can't say for sure but the count seems to run long on the 4000(?) carton. Hard to say since I open the carton, dump the bullets into an ammo can, and load till the can is empty.

I saw a video one time from Hornady that included packaging the bullets. Lady has a gloved hand, an empty box, and a scale. She takes a handful of bullets, puts them in the box and checks against the scale's weight (bullets plus tare) then adjusts as required. She must have a very well calibrated hand, or something magic in that glove, cuz she was dead on most of the time with her first "handful!"

I like Hornadys and have used a bunch of them over the years. They must have those scales set really well, cuz I've probably gotten fewer than a half dozen extras out of many, many hundreds. And so far I've never gotten shorted, either (knock wood!)

If my memory serves me correctly Sierra advertised packages of 101...the reason being to have one left over for a dummy round for expediency of setup. i'm going back 30 years with this so don't take it to the bank...

I have a box of "extra" bullets I've received from bullet makers over the years. When I go to loading that bullet,,, I often find I "need another one at times. Plus,, I've loaded partial amounts & put the "extra" bullet back in the box of the same ones.
It used to be common to have 101 in a box.

Shhhh! If this get's out the "suits" in the accounting departments will tighten up their packaging methods. Do you know how much the companies lose in $$ in a year when an extra bullet in each package gets shipped? :roll:

I'd guess about 1%.....

I just ordered 100 454 casull starline brass and received 101. Sure makes it hard to keep them all organized when all my plastic boxes only hold 50.

Yup, last order of cases, beleive they were Starline, had one extra. I'm not complaining about that though.

That one extra Makes up for that one I lost at the range Monday. Hate losing brass but my lever action flings them pretty good even when your gentle.

I use to reload a lot of Speer bullets till their prices got so unaffordable and it was very common to have one or two and sometimes three extras in the box.

Well, the spell is broken.

I just bought (50) Hornady 6.8 SPC pieces of brass.

This stuff is costly at $39 a box so I was hoping that I might score an extra piece of brass.

Well, no such luck. I got what I paid for. Why am I disappointed?

Got a deal on primed federal 45 acp brass once. I think it was from natchez. Anyways it was ridiculous cheap to begin with around ten bucks a hundred. So I ordered a thousand. Shows up bulk packed. Don't know what their counting method was as I ended up with nearly 1300 cases.
