I always liked the old speed hammers on the six series guns. I also think fixed sight guns should have bobbed hammers. So I made a speed hammer for my fixed sight GP100.

I've done the same thing to my S&W Airweight. I would suggest one thing to all who have made such modifications, and that is: TEST your gun in the freezing cold temps (if applicable to your locale of course) and be sure that it fires consistently. Due to the removal of metal, and thus WEIGHT of the hammer, it may not fire in the cold....Also, I remove 98+% of the oil from the insides of my Airweight to assist in freezing cold weather functioning. I learned this while living in Mn. :-)))

I bought a used GP a few years ago with a bobbed hammer, 3 inch, fixed sights, compact grip. No serrations to grab, although it is da/sa. Nice trigger, easy to shoot double action.

A nice, clean job.
- How likely is a misfire or hangfire caused by weaker impact on primer?

- What changes, if any, have occurred relative to trigger action?

- How difficult is manual hammer cock using non-shooting hand?

- How difficult is manual hammer cock using shooting hand?

- How does this alteration affect Ruger's willingness to service the revolver?

I ask these questions because if feasible, I want my SP101 3-inch to have its hammer bobbed in a nearly identical manner.

Forgot to mention that, when I bobbed the hammer of my S&W, I purchased a new hammer from S&W to keep as a spare if: a) I decided to sell the gun or b) if I screwed-up the 'bobbing' modification.

THE HAMMER SHOULD IN THEORY BE FASTER, WITH OUT MISFIRES

- What changes, if any, have occurred relative to trigger action?

NO CHANGE

- How difficult is manual hammer cock using non-shooting hand?

EASY

- How difficult is manual hammer cock using shooting hand?

EASY

- How does this alteration affect Ruger's willingness to service the revolver?

I SUSPECT IF I SEND IT IN I'LL BE CHARGED FOR A NEW HAMMER.

You are welcome.

Sorry I misspoke on the price, it was $37. It was worth it.

The same file was used to add "jimping" to my EDC knives. So I definitely got my money out of it, and it still cuts like new. The hammer was soft and easy compared to the knife blades.
