GP-100 firing pin

Bruce, You're a few years behind times. The current model GP100s have a screw-in bushing with the firing pin and firing pin spring inside the bushing. The bushing threads into the frame from the rear of the hammer channel. I made a tool out of a screwdriver by cutting a wide slot in the flat blade then rounding the studs on the sides until they fit just right in the two holes for the bushing. BTW, Ruger uses tread lock on the bushing so it's a good idea to heat it up with a hairdryer before attempting to remove the screw-in bushing.

Brownell's sells all sorts of special tools so I wouldn't be surprised if they had a tool for the firing pin bushing. BTW, newer SP10s have the same exact firing pin bushing, spring, and firing pin.

Thank you for the information. I was looking at the schematic from Brownell's and it shows a cross pin holding the cup in place. The revolver I'm working on is so polished that I can't see the pin outline.
I'll dis-assemble and look again.

If it is an early model (I have some of those) it IS held in by a cross pin that is very hard to see. Look (a magnifying glass might help) at the right side maybe 1/8th inch down, 1/16th inch back from the top rear of the frame opening (hope this helps locate it) It can be very hard to see, but once you find it you'll know from then on where it is. Ruger pins it in place and then does a GREAT job of polishing it so it is nearly invisible. The bad part (I hate to say) is that after reinstalling everything you will probably be hard pressed to grind/polish it back to what Ruger did.

You might want to talk to Ruger Customer Service and see what they might be able to do for you. You may be pleasantly surprised.
