Blackhawk Disassembly Question

Can anyone point me to some instructions or a video that shows which parts to remove prior to sending a 3 screw Blackhawk back to be refinished?

The hammer and trigger assembly. I hear they sometimes 'keep' those parts when they automatically 'downgrade' revolver to the transfer bar.

You want to remove the hammer, trigger, cylinder latch and spring, base pin and pawl. Keep those so they can be reinstalled when the gun gets back. In the past these parts were returned but there have been reported cases of these parts staying at the factory when an old modle is sent in for work. Better safe than sorry unless you want a transfer bar old model.

Getting these apart isn't a huge deal, and can be done easily, but there are a few 'tricks' to doing it without damaging screws, grip frame etc. Feel free to PM if you want some help with it!

I never sent a Ruger back for refinishing , but I have sent two 3 screw Rugers to the factory for the transfer bar conversion and after the conversion they sent all the original parts back to me in a plastic bag with the gun.
So if someone wanted to change it back they could.

The idea here is to retain the original 3-screw parts which will automatically be changed out should they arrive in the gun. It's a looong standing policy to retrofit the OM's to the transfer bar design. No getting around it once they get it. In more recent times, they haven't been returning the original parts. Hence the question posed here. :wink:

I've heard they do something like this stamp, found on my OM .44 when I bought it.

My OM .22 is on its way for a cylinder addition, so I'll know soon enough.
I'll post a pic. when I get it back.

At any rate it's hidden,...no big deal.

...Oh yea, my original parts stayed home too!
