Just for the fun of it...

Is there any reason why I couldn't rechamber a 44 Bisley cylinder to 45acp, as long as it indexes correctly in my Blackhawk?

Who would be a good smith to have do this?

I know that there are cheaper ways to get this done, but it's appealing to the contrary in me.

Sure...but you may have trouble squeezing them down that barrel...

If that were the route I was taking I'd go 45 Colt and keep the loads within reason...

I was just messin with ya. It can probably be done by any competent smith, maybe you could get lucky and find one used that fit too. Check your OAL and put up a WTB in the classifieds, you never know.

You can send it in to Ruger and they will fit an ACP cylinder to your gun but it will be a fluted cylinder, not a Bisley cylinder. If your gun is a Bisley they will not fit an ACP cylinder to it because they never offered the Bisley as a convertible model. I don't understsnd their reason, but that is their policy. I have been through this ordeal with them.

There was a couple runs of the Acusport/Williams' Bisleys in 45LC/45ACP. However, as they weren't cataloged models I don't see them supplying or fitting a new cylinder to one.

Bob,
You can call Ruger directly but I tend to agree witrh Blckhawk73...It can be done regardless, Ruger just may not do it.
