Bisley Hammer in Blackhawk.

What modifications, if any, are needed to install a Bisley style hammer into a "standard" Blackhawk?

Put hammer pin thru both hammers. scribe line on bisley hammer to match hump on BH hammer. File, grind, sand until bisley matches BH hammer. Easy job but be careful with power tools.

If you'd like a template, I've got a hammer with the top half cut off to make the scribing easier. No problem to mail it to you and you can mail it back when you are done.

If the Blackhawk is a later model with the thicker grip frame ears,,, it is a good time to do this modification leaving a little bit of the hump to FLUSH out the hammer surface like days of o'l.

The new/current figment of the hammer, leaving the "Hole" to me looks just plain unfinished & sloppy... :roll:

I did it on my NM Vaquero. I LOVE gunsmithing and little projects like this, but WOW, what a lot of work! Took me a couple and a half hours. Started with a Dremel, then files, and finally wet/dry sandpaper. It was a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it:

How come nobody seems to just open the grip frame like I did on the 1860 Army Colt? Its about a 5 minute job with jewlers files. Is it the bright aluminum after the file work? The hammers can be as hard as a whores heart but I realize the hammer is the less expensive part but....Aluminum black or even a sharpie would color the cut in the grip frame back and for the most part, once cut the aluminum color is inside/hardly visible. Maybe folks think they might wanna revert to the original hammer one day later? Jes curious.

Does look a bit different. My favorite is the regular gripframe with the Bisley hammer. Just like the way it looks.

For those who don't want to mess with modifying factory parts, Grand Masters LLC (Formerly Power Custom) offers Bisley hammer and trigger kits for both new and old model blackhawks. The NM parts are available in blue or stainless. Can't remember if I'm allowed to post links to other websites, so I won't post a link, but a quick google search will get you their. They have lots of cool stuff to modify/improve your Blackhawk. I'm sure most members here are quite familiar with them, but many prefer the pride and satisfaction of modifying factory parts themselves and saving a little money in the process.

I fitted the 1860 Colt frame to the Blackhawk with a Bisley hammer, the gap is not bad and engine turning the sides of the hammer pretty much draws yer eye away from it. On the current project, the pimp cannon, I modded the hammer to fit the RP old model 2 piece colt frame and it looks good too. Lots less work to mod the frame than the hammer though. I'm happy with both applications. That little tail sticking out of the frame on an unmodded bisley hammer is no real detractor I think.

I like the Super Blackhawk hammer better than the Bisley. It's a drop in fit. No grinding and a wider pad for your thumb! JMHO BhK

Ray the quickest way to mod the Bisley hammer is to mount a carborundum cutoff wheel in a bench grinder. Hog off most of the material until it will fit in the gun. Then re-scribe to match the grip frame ears. Finish with small fine flat file and polish with 600 grit paper with a small sanding block. Then polish bright or re-blue.

Cuts the time down to 35-45 minutes.
