Where can I buy a bit that fits Rugers base pin latch nut?
I have Brownells Ruger single action screwdriver set that came with 4 bits but not one for the base pin nut.
I've looked all through Brownells catalog & can't find one.
Is their such a bit? What does everyone use if theirs no specific bit?

Quickest way is to use an appropriate sized screwdriver and file out the center of the bit to span the base pin latch center. There may be one of the Magna-tip bits that Brownells sells that would fit unaltered, but I'm not sure which one.

Look through BROWNELL'S catalog in the single action tools section. I finally broke down and bought one awhile back. The gate spring tool is another good one to buy if you take the gun completely apart.

I keep a spare set of parts, in blue and stainless both, for the base pin latch. While I usually apply #242 LOC-TITE...the lower end blue...to the base pin nut, I missed one on a 44 VAQUERO and ended up launching the $%^& thing and the gun was out of use unless I wanted to steal the parts off another one.

Ace hardware is where I used to get them. Evil little things. Nothing like being atop a 12" step ladder with your arms over your head, trying to keep a stupid spanner head screw on the end of those stupid prongs, all while trying not to fall off and killing yourself. Whomever thought we needed security screws on something you needed a 12" ladder to get to was obviously a true genius.
