Just purchased a BH 30 cal made in 2000, anyone have any info they might want to share on the 30 cal. such as loads , bullets , bullet weights, factory ammo, reloads, shooting, hunting etc. Thanks

I'll be waiting for some info too. I recently bought one and have been putting all the stuff I need to load for it. Moneys a little tight so I am trying to spread the purchases out.

The 30 carbine in a Ruger Blackhawk is a fine caliber, you will like it. First thing everyone will tell you is, they are loud, so lets get that out of the way, it is LOUD! Live with it, it's a fast small caliber that shoots fast & if you wind it up it's going to make some noise, wear hearing protection but don't let that hold you back from enjoying a fine gun.
All Ruger 30 carbines are 7 1/2" barrels, that's all they've ever made & it shoots flat with very little recoil & everyone I've ever owned (maybe 8-9) have been extremely accurate with good ammo. As you know the case is rimless so it head spaces on the case mouth, for some this is a bit of a turn off. Brass does need to be kept within a certain length so the cases go in the gun easily but don't over trim them or you will have misfires.
The older models have recessed chambers so go by your reloading manuals for case length. There are many good bullets for handloading including the 100 gr Plinker which is a dandy, I like to run it with 2400 powder. You can also use the 110 gr RN bullets with great success also using 2400 powder but other powders also work just fine. I've shot many, many pounds of 2400 in my guns.
An easy way to get around the rimless problem with a 30 carbine if you have a new model is to use 32/20 brass. The new model guns don't have recessed chambers so the gun will headspace on the rim instead of the case mouth. I use 32/20 Redding dies & mostly cast bullets sized from .310" up to .313" & they shoot great in my new model 30 carbine & I can still shoot 30 carbine ammo if I choose to do so, which I don't. Accuracy is great with 3-4 different cast bullets using Unique, Longshot, Power Pistol or 2400 & you can load it quite fast depending on bullet weight. A real winner on cotton tails, jackrabbits, rock chucks, etc. Enjoy your 30 carbine!
