Barrel threads on the NM Mid Framed guns

Probably most everyone knew this but me, but the barrels out of the New Model mid frame guns, like a .44 Special or New Vaquero, have the same thread configuration of the Old Models. Here's a pic of a barrel out of a .44 Special with a stub from a OM .357 and they're about identical, even to shank lenght. Makes for new possibilities when doing custom work, as you even can get pinned in sight blades as shown on this one; it's a 4 5/8's .44 Special. Here's a couple of pics:

I once put an OM 357 barrel with front sight on a 357 50th Anniversary but the ej housing threads didnt index with the ej housing mount on the frame so the ej housing was twisted and wouldnt seat proper on the barrel.
