Barrel slugging question

I am going to slug my barrel and want to make sure about my choice of lead.
Went to Wally World, bought some egg shaped sinkers, melted them into a fired 45 Colt case.

There’s some funky looking slag for lack of a better description on top of the melted lead. Will this hurt my barrel any?

Nope.
Actually,, you could have used the sinkers w/o melting them. Pure/soft lead is what's needed.
If the size is too big,, rolling an egg between two steel plates will flatten the sides.
Next,, lube the bore,, and then lube the egg. Makes driving the slug into the barrel easier.

I find that the egg sinker shape works better than a solid cylindrical slug. The hole in the center of the egg sinker allows the entire sinker to crush down a bit and fit into the bore without an undue amount of pounding.

Test those sinkers for softness using the thumbnail test before using them to slug your bore. Some states have outlawed lead for fishing weights and manufacturers are switching to Zink ( to hard to slug with). You should be able to easily scratch it with your thumbnail if it's soft lead.

I don't think you can buy lead sinkers any more. Check them closely.

Get some soft lead round balls of a close caliber. I keep some on hand just for that.
