I've always heard that one should clean a barrel from breach to bore, ok, I have no expertise to argue the point; but........

It seems all the bad stuff got left in the barrel while moving in the beach to bore direction; therefore it would be easier to dislodge by attempting to free it by putting pressure in the opposite direction.

I understand one does want the micro-edges of the rifling pointing in the direction of bullet travel; but it seems this could be satisfied after all the bad stuff is loosened and removed.

I understand your line of thinking. However,, the breech to bore method is preffered due to protection of the muzzle end,, (accuracy) and next,, to prevent crud from falling into the action area,, or especially the minute areas of the chamber where fouling could cause sticky seating or extraction. I don't think thare are "leading edges" going forward to where it would trap fouling if you cleaned things from the breech to the muzzle.

Most of my guns do not allow cleaning except through the muzzle. A 'Bore Snake' will work but I use an aluminum rod, brass, jags, brushes and patch holders which should not damage the muzzle and I also use a tapered rubber cone, which I cut from an electronic alligator clip insulator, as a bore guide and muzzle protector. A rag at the other end catches any solvent and crud that could get into the works. :D
