As I understand it they are now illegal here in SD due to several fires being caused by knuckleheads shooting them up in the BH forests. The older I get the more I hate idiots like that !!

I think exploding targets are an example of life imitating art. Too many movies and video games showing explosive effects of shooting.

Exploding targets, blowing away a brick or two of .22 every time you go to the range---these are examples of how firearms ownership and use, which has very serious roots, is being turned into a free-for-all carnival. It seems that the "Hey y'all, watch this!" bunch is taking over.

Of course, I have to admit that I enjoyed the video of a number of feral hogs being taken out by a large rifle-detonated charge.

I saw a video from Afghanistan where a sniper took out six insurgents with one shot. Seems one of the six was wearing a bomb and when the shot hit.....well you get the picture.

To the OP, never used one or watched one in person. Looks like fun. I'll have to check and see if they are allowed at the two ranges I use.

Had a friend mix 50 lbs in a bucket and put in the side door of a 3/4 ton Dodge van and shoot it from 300 yds. Nothing left of the van but the frame and engine. Explosion was felt over a mile away and heard over 5 miles away. Quite a show.

I used to make my own when I worked in the fire extinguisher industry. Take a 2.5 pound piece of junk Kidde disposable extinguisher with an aluminum cylinder and thread a schrader valve into the plastic nozzle. Set the regulator on the nitrogen cylinder at 200 pounds and watch the needle on the Kidde pressure gauge go from pointing up in the green to pointing straight down in the red.

Take a half dozen or so to the National Forest and have some fun! The first time I tried it, I learned that a .44 mag (from a Ruger Carbine) will turn the cylinder body inside out and send it 50' in the air in a huge yellow (ABC ex.) or white (BC ex.) cloud. :shock: :lol: Open sight long distance shooting? Who needs a spotting scope? If you hit it you would know it! At 100+ yards a red 2.5 pound fire extinguisher looks like a match stick, if that.

When done pick up the pieces of the plastic valve heads and dip tubes. The cylinder bodies were aluminum and always in one piece. As for the contents? Biodegradable. ABC = monoammonium phosphate, breaks down into a fertilizer. BC = baking soda, no harm no foul.
