There was a thread the other day and the subject of drummers came up. Well, I happened to bring up Sandy Nelson. So, I ordered "The Very Best Of Sandy Nelson" from Amazon.

It came today and Sandy Nelson was just as good as I remembered him. But while listening to him and visualizing in my mind him playing the songs I happened to think of Lloyd Thaxton.

Maybe some of you old timers will remember him. He hosted a show called Lloyd Thaxton's Dance Party. It was on the order of "American Bandstand". Anyway what Thaxton would do once in a while is take a great big sheet of paper on a table in front of him and draw himself a set of drums. He drew them full size. They would then play a popular rock song of the day that had good drums in it and he would proceed to play along on his drawn set of drums.

As I remember he was very good at it and never seemed to miss a beat. He was on the snare, the toms and the floor tom when the beat called for it. He never did play a real set of drums on the show but I would imagine he was a pretty good drummer.

Funny, the things that pop into your mind once in a while.

I don't know how many of you will remember this. I don't know if that show was just a west coast thing or if it was a network show.

I do remember Lloyd Thaxton, lived in Phoenix at the time but only have vague recollections of the show.

I remember him. Being I was just a lad I always thought he was a local guy. IIRC he was a bit of a goof ball. Lip syncing to the records he was playing making faces etc.
