alloy single six?

Today I saw a single six, fixed sights, probably a 6" barrel with stag grips.

I was told it was a lightweight, about everything was alloy(aluminum?), and almost had a painted appearance. I had not seen such a configuration before.

Just curious about these guns, anyone seen one before? It was priced at 550 which I thought was somewhat high.

Roof, was it a "tri-color", and did the stags have black eagles? You can search on "lightweight" on the forum to get some more info, but the asking price was likely more than fair... Perhaps a steal.

Here's a link to a couple sold recently. As you can see, they have a unique look and are not cheap. If it is what you say, buy it.

I am not much of an collector, so did not notice the finer points of the grips, they were stag, but cannot say eagles or not. I just thought it was a bit unusual all in all.

This one was all dark, a drag mark on the alloy looking cylinder on the stops. Someone said he thought he could see gold color on the cylinder but I did not notice the gold he spoke of. Almost a paint like appearance, so probably not a nicer piece as shown in the referenced thread.

I will take another look this week. It certainly was light in the hand for what that is worth.

Get the serial number. That will help confirm its provenance.

The Lightweight Single-Sixes were numbered from 200000 to 212534 . . . with no prefix.

Ruger Lightweights only had "4 5/8 in. barrels". serial number 200,000 to 212,534.

Yeah, I suspect the 5" is closer than my 6" estimate.

If it is still around Saturday, I will compare the serials.

They made Lightweights that were all "blue." Some had alloy cylinders & others had steel cylinders.
Best thing is to check the serials as mentioned above.
If it is a LWT, that price just might be well worth it.

the aluminum cylinders that were 'Martin coated' ( almost a green) were then colored (inked?? Japanned? made black) and when they start to wear and they will chip like the original coating, will show this 'green' through the finish, finally Ruger went to the all steel, ended all their problems/issues with the LW, lw cylinder.........
we've had some trouble trying to recoat, cover this process, but it can be done, and no, it still does NOT wear well................
