We here on the Ruger Forum enjoy a few "gatherings" such as the one at my place called the East Coast Ruger Forum Gathering.
Well here in NC,, there is another Forum, the NC Gun Owners. I visit it occasionally. Since it's more focused on people in NC, I know more "locals" on it.
Well, one of them approached me about a gathering of the NCGO a few years ago & they have had a couple of gatherings here, just like our East Coast one.
At last years gathering,,, a young man who only lives about 30 miles away was one of the attendees. he was a nice gentleman. His wife came with him, and they camped here.

Well today, I got a call that this young man who had some health issues had passed away on July 17th from a massive heart attack. He was in his mid 20's. A bit shocking, but once I was made aware of his health issues,,, it was more understandable. Still,,, this young man was a fun guy, and enjoyed trying all kinds of different guns.
Last year, he asked me if he could shoot my Ruger SRH in .480. He wanted to try it in DA mode after he shot it SA. I chuckled a bit & told him just to "hang on & go for it!"
He did.
While his accuracy "left a bit to be desired," he had a big smile afterwards. It's that smile & small event that I'll remember.

Here is a pic of me, being the range officer, and Drew enjoying my .480.
RIP young man!

Sorry about your friend, contender, may he rest in peace, but I see two smiles in that picture. You done good, my friend.

Hi,

There's no way to explain or understand some events in life, and this seems like one of them, Ty. All our losses are tough, a young fellow like Drew leaving so soon makes them even more so. Prayers come from SoCal for his family: may they be given the strength to carry on without him.

TY, my prayers are for his family and friends. Thank you for your kindness to this young man and posting this news. May he rest in peace.

If there is any effort to solicit funds for his family or a memorial fund that you know of, please share it with us. Maybe some of us could extend a hand.

Thanks all.
welder,,, I'll have to check to see if there is a fund for his wife, or any expenses. I was just taken aback by the news a bit when Glen called me. I was on the road heading home & he gave me the news.

If anybody wants to visit the NCGO forum to read about this,,, www.ncgunowners.com
Go to the "Anything goes" section, and it's at the top of the page. Lots of kind words for Drew by many who knew him a bit.

I only knew Drew via that Forum until we met at the Gathering. It was the only time we'd been able to get together. He had planned on coming back up for a visit or three, yet "life" interrupted his planned visits. He had been financially strapped a bit & wasn't able to buy the guns many of us have been able to get easily. So, I think many of us truly enjoyed letting him experience our toys. I recall I'd gotten some Lee reloading stuff I didn't need & had put it up for sale. He expressed interest,,, and I just gave it to him. Now,,, I look back & smile knowing that he truly appreciated it all. I hadn't been made aware of how serious his health issues had been until yesterday. To me,,, a person's private life is just that, and I never inquired much when anything was said. In fact, I still don't know "details" except to say it was a serious case of some cancer & the treatment was VERY taxing upon him.

And,, all this comes at a time when Miss Penny & I are losing another friend. We have an older lady friend who'd left Conn. & moved to our area several years ago. We met at an outdoor event, and Cindy was a "gun girl!" We all became friends quickly. She first took our WOT clinic, and later became one of our instructors. She volunteered for our FoNRA committee & became the treasurer later on. Super nice lady!
Well a few years ago,, she too got cancer. Round one was a bit rough, but all seemed to be better,,, for a while. Then, several months ago, it returned. We have helped her any way we could. Her son wanted her to move back up to Conn. but due to her treatment & other issues, she couldn't fly, and she couldn't drive herself. Well, just this week, he came here & got his mom & took her back to Conn. She finally got to see her new & ONLY grandchild just yesterday. (Her son & his wife have been trying hard to have a kid for several years, with finally success.) Penny showed me the facebook video last night with Cindy "nose rubbing" her granddaughter!
We know that Cindy's condition will not improve, and we know it's only a matter of time.

Sorry to dump all this on y'all here,, but it's been on my mind a bit.

Miss Penny & I rejoice in the fact we've been blessed with good friends & family. But when we lose them,,,we do feel a bit of loss!

God sometimes moves in mysterious ways and NONE may know their time here on earth. Sometimes God grants a miracle and the person is healed; But many times God's answer to all the prayers is a simple "NO", it is time for the person's soul to return to the Creator. When that happens, it is a sad event for family and friends. Yet there should also be a rejoicing in the heart, for the person has left this world of struggle, suffering and pain to return to paradise with GOD, our creator.

Not my quote, but I like it..."never complain about getting old, because many never have that opportunity."

Prayers going up from South Carolina for his family and yours, Ty.

What a bittersweet story Ty... Man oh man. Ain't no way to explain the ways of providence, is there?

May he rest in peace. Everything we do, everyone we interact with becomes part of our own history, and we part of theirs. I have no doubt that your time together was well spent. Can't ask for much more than that out of life in my view...

Prayer from Texas for both families. May God grant peace, comfort, and strength during these difficult times. May we appreciate the blessings and good times that surround use daily.
